Perhaps you guys don't consider this "core business," but Opus is far superior to Dreamweaver or Frontpage in ease of use. A version or option that output straight web html would be very popular, in my opinion. I find Dreamweavers user interface clunky and obtuse. I use Frontpage, but, Yuk. It is typical Microsoft...what more can I say?

Except, of course, I'd rather be Opusing...

Dave

Although Opus can create very impressive interactive content for the web, we have never designed the software as a general web design tool, and many of the actions, animations and transitions used by Opus could not easily be converted to pure HTML (or even DHTML).

Opus iO and Flex publications are ideal for quizzes, games and other specialist content for which the end-user is willing to download a plug-in and accepts that there may be a few seconds loading time before the page is accessible. We therefore recommend using Opus web publications in similar situations as Macromedia Flash and Shockwave content.

However, many users would be unwilling to download a plugin or wait 30 seconds just to see your home page, so I always recommend creating the index of the site in a standard HTML editor and providing links to the Opus publications from this page (along with details of any loading times and plug-in requirements involved).

That said, I appreciate that the Opus editing environment is much more user-friendly than many HTML editing tools, and it may be possible to add a new publication mode to Opus which reduces the toolset and actions to those which can be easily exported to HTML. However, without the features provided by the iO-plugin, I think this would leave very few facilities available to the author.

I hope this helps. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any further queries.

Kind regards,

I fully agree with you. All I would have left would be:

A. Everything I get with Frontpage, Dreamweaver, et al

B. The inherent limitations of html but able to call Opus when needed.

C. The excellent Opus frontend that is 10 times faster and far more flexible.

Hmmm...I guess if you added this ability we'd just have Dreamweaver, Flash, Director, all in the same program except a lot easier to use and much cheaper.

Nahhhh, rotten idea. Forget I mentioned it. :P

Big fan, in case you haven't noticed,
Dave
