The new layers feature makes me wonder whether it would be possible in a future release to be able to import PSD layered files? Or as I know that DW had strong links with Paint Shop Pro.. maybe an import from that?

might be nice?

SCALA Infochannel designer is a tool for making digital signage across networks.. an add on is available to allow designers to import PSD files and keep their layers - which can then be animated or whatever.

It's not really the same thing. If we could import PSD files, it'd have to create a new image object in every layer, which isn't necessarily what you want. We also don't support all the different modes for combining layers.

Actually that would be exactly what I'd want! Different object for each layer. I wouldn't be worried about any layer effects or anything. It would be great to layout a page in Photoshop and then drop into Opus with the positions in the right places - rather than make in Photoshop and then import individual png files - then place on the page.. That's how the SCALA import one works

The rights to use someone else's file format doesn't usually come cheap --Adobe are not known for their generosity -- an arm and a leg would be about the right price DW would probably have to pay for the .PSD filters for a recent version of Photoshop.

This look s great - if you can justify the cost...

I asked if they could make an Opus version...

"Craig,

I am not very familiar with Opus Pro. I can become familiar enought to estimate the cost of a custom addin if you like, but I would want you aware that the cost of such a custom addin would be quite expensive. If you think it is worth my looking into for you let me know and I will be happy to do so.

There is no licensing to pay Adobe. We are not really reading the PSD files, instead we are automating the process of selecting layers, cropping, exporting, and saving data needed for positioning. Photoshop is needed in order to run.

Regards,

Keith Tromer

And yet PSD2FLA seems to do it fairly cheaply...

http://www.medialab.com/psd2fla/

Although their product seems to be set to be wiped out by Flash CS3's import feature for layered Photoshop files.
