If, like me you have many Opus publication loaded at one time and Opus crashes, on restarting you have to click YES to each file as it loads the autosaved versions, then when you close Opus, you hafe to click YES again to each file to save it. It would be handy to have a 'Yes to All' option

Why would you have multiple OPUS Pubs open at once? On rare occasions I have opened a second OPUS Pub to temporarily COPY & PASTE a Page or Object. I could have opened one Pub, and put what I needed into a Gallery, then closed the first Pub and opened the second. I could drag what I wanted from the Gallery into the second Pub.

I strongly recommend you do NOT have more than one Pub open at a time. There's a option in OPUS which allows you to have multiple Pages open at once. That used to be the OPUS default, but it was found to cause crashes, so the default was changed to one Page at a time. I NEVER change back to multiple Pages open simulataneously.

Even if you have 4GB of RAM, I think you are inviting trouble by having multiple Pubs open during long edit sessions. I normally have OPUS and PSP open at the same time using both of my dual monitors; that ties up enough RAM on my computer.

If OPUS is crashing on you, try using one Pub at a time, and see if it totally fixes things. I haven't had my computer lock-up/crash in months, and then it was another program which caused the problem.

Thanks Demofred, I hear what you say :-) and will note your warning!!. At the moment I have 19 files in my Object browser and generally it causes me no problems--The crashes I am having just now is caused by me trying to get DLL's working--problems with the C++ code in the DLL. I have the files open because I can, so Opus must be designed to function in that way. I just find it much easier to keep track of my files and copy code from one to another.
So a bit of lateral thinking---given there may be a susceptibility of Opus crashing if multiple files are open, it makes it an even handier facility (open all/save all) when this happens.
I seem to go through phases about once every nine months where I get really bad problems with Opus crashing, then it's OK for ages, so it's good to be reminded to close all other files for when it hits me again.
Kind regards
Sandy

I have gotten into the habit of doing a SAVE after almost every couple of additions to my OPUS Pubs. While OPUS has a Backup and an AutoSave of my Pub, I also use the File->Open to locate what I just Saved. I highlight it and use my Right Mouse which opens a window which has my WinZip program. I ZIP the newely saved Pub every couple of modifications -- "just in case." I even do a complete COPY of a client's sub-directory to a backup HD, and burn a DVD when a project becomes irreplaceable. Can you have too many backups if a disaster hits?

Have you noticed the more cautious you are, and the more you Save and have redundant backups, the fewer disasters your have? This goes for all software projects. I do the "ZIP" trick on videos I edit, PowerPoint, Word docs, anything that's vitally important.

Another "trick" I use is to sometimes "SLOW DOWN" with my quick clicking. Once you get used to a software package, you can really "rip" with your clicking on things. I think sometimes you can get ahead of the computer. I know that happens with my video editing software.

If I get any feeling there maybe a problem, or even after I've been working for a couple of hours with lots of SAVES, I still completely shut down all my programs. I sometimes even re-Start my computer, which gives me a forced two minute break.

If you've noticed in my postings over the years, I don't seem to have all the minor problems other people report. It's either that I am extremely lucky (though I've NEVER won a lottery), or possibly some procedure I've adopted prevents issues.

Try some of my ideas, and see if the number of lockups and crashes decreases. Share your results with us. Maybe I can "patent" some of my ideas (LOL). :P

I've found that the number of crashes is proportional to the importance of what you are doing--not just in Opus, but with computers in general.
I save before every preview and I backup at regular intervals, then save incremental versions. If I do start having crashes I will certainly try your technique of only having one file open.
