I have been working on a project for some weeks now. The project includes a number of MP3 sounds that play both automatically (on the running of a page) and on the click of a button. I have tested these actions on numerous occasions, usually on the completion of each page. I booted up Creator today and suddenly I can play NO SOUNDS! They work fine when I run the sound files under normal Windows. Any ideas what is going on? Any help gratefully received - I hope my efforts over the past weeks have not been for nothing!

Richie

When you say you can play no sounds do you mean that the sounds are attached to your page but they do not play, or are the sound files missing?

Without knowing exactly what you do mean, all I can do is suggest you have a look at the actions that trigger the sounds eg: on page loading or on a mouse click. Maybe you have done something to change the triggers and the sounds are not being triggered and therefore not playing?

Also make sure the sound files exist where Creator thinks they are.

I doubt if this problem is a Creator software problem - there are no reports of any bug that suddenly stops sound files playing as far as I know, so I think the issue is somewhere in your publication and the good news is, that means the solution is also there.

Let us know how you get on

Cheers

Graham

Hi Graham,

Thanks for the reply. Yes, the files are still there plus I even re-linked some of them to see if that was the problem. Still no sound.

I will play around a little more and see how I get on.

Cheers,

Richie

Hi Richie

Lars posted an interesting aside about wireless mouse issues and unresponsive menu's. You have unresponsive sound files so near enough maybe?

Here is the link

http://www.digitalgrapevine.info/viewtopic.php?f=29&t=4004&hilit=wireless

I'm now at a bit of loss as to what the problem is.

Maybe you could email me your pub and one of the offending sound files and I'll have a play?

or

Someone might read your post and solve your problem for you

Your problem is a strange one though

Cheers

Graham

Several ideas:

1. Do you have the sound turned on? Sounds daft, but then...also W7 controls each application individually so I'd check the mixer.

2. Do sounds (different ones) work in a new or other publication? Perhaps the publication / sound is corrupt.

3. Do you have a trigger somewhere that is muting the sound from Opus?

Hi, sorry for the delay, been away.

Well, I have sorted the problem by way of a fresh install of Windows. Sounds a bit extreme, but I ended up having problems not just with Creator but some other apps too. Anyway, it appears to have done the trick with the sound. Strangely, however, I cannot import some types of video files - ones which I HAVE used before!? It's no problem though, just means that I have to convert to AVI which seems to work fine.

Thanks for your feedback though, i'm much obliged.

Regards,

Richie

Hi Richie,

Glad you solved the problem - even if it was extreme! As the problem seem to stem to the whole of windows, you may want to check out the W7 in future for such problems - http://www.sevenforums.com

Also be aware that W7 has a habit of upgrading functioning drives with ones that don't work. You can, from the device manager, use roll back to return to an existing state. On that point, if you have system restore, you can roll back the whole of W7 rather than reinstall. W7 is really designed to help recover from such problems without such drastic action.

As for the videos, if you meant they won't load into Opus, then you probably no longer have the right codecs installed. Opus will play MPG1 without any additional software, but I think that you need third party codecs for any other format.

Thanks Mack, noted with the video, I'll get hold of a codec pack and see how it goes.

Not a problem.

Normal caveats for those mega codec packs - some may change the settings used by existing codecs causing other issues. Better to choose just the codecs you need.
