Post subject:  Failed installation of Creator 6 on Vista SP1

Sorry if this has come up before, but I couldn't find anything quite like it in the forum posts.

I am trying to move Creator 6 from a desktop to a new laptop ahead of a job move. The laptop sadly comes with Vista SP1 and I have no option with this!

When I run the set up file, everything is fine until near the end when it says it is installing Buttoneer.ttf and then freezes. The CPU is not "maxed out" and the same thing happens when I try the installation with a fresh boot, running as administrator and running in compatability mode. What does get installed won't run, so there is obviously something important not getting installed/registered.

Has anyone else had similar problems? Any advice and suggestions greatly appreciated!

Best wishes and TIA,

Dave

Hi Dave,

The joys of Vista :-|

Several things;

1. Turn of all antivirus, spyware checkers, etc.

2. Turn Aero to basic - although this shouldn't affect the install.

3. Make sure that the file used for the install works on a different computer & get a fresh copy form DW if possible as it may be corrupt.

Hi, Mack,

Thanks for your reply and suggestions. I am sorry I didn't get back sooner, but I have just started a new job and have had all the fun of moving etc.

In the end I made an image of the partition and then did a "factory restore". This time I did not remove anything other than the Office 2007 trial and McAfee software, but installed Opus Creator before anything else.

It installed without problem! Of course I then had everything else to re-install, but hey ho...

The laptop is working as well as can be expected for Vista, but I wonder if there was an issue with dll versioning conflicts for the installer (or something similar). Interestingly Opus Pro gave the same problem, but installed fine on the clean operating system - but the Opus Pro trial programme installed without any problems!

Thanks again!

Cheers,

Dave

PS The original antivirus programme I was using ws BitDefender. This did not like the EndProcess.exe Xtension in Pro and deleted it as a virus, so it could be that it was interfering.

Glad you solved the problem.

AVs do seem to have a problem with Opus. I've set the Opus directory as an exclude path in AVG Resident Scanner and Opus seems much happier.
