Post subject:  Sorting slides in slideshow

There are multiple slideshowes that I use in a presentation, I organized each show in a different folder. The slides in each folder are named in a particular order that suites the order I like to see them on the screen. However, Opus Creator (both versions 6 and 7 and 8) changes the order of appearence of the slides, everytime in the same order, but not according the namelist.

I use the adress 'X:\foldername\*.*' in the propertybox for the folder to select all the slides in that particular folder.

Obviously, this is not the right way, but can anynody tell me how I should do this?

Not sure if Creator uses the same method as Opus Pro, but having added the slide show object to the page - you simply add the images and then use the up / down to sort into order - playing from the top. This works.

Thanks Mack for your reply, I think it works the same in Creator.
In my option I can simply select the slides in the map with the *.* and I don't have to copy them to the map. There are about several hundreds of slides in the project, you can imagine that I'm not keen to renumber all the slides. Now I've sorted the slides in the maps according to the 'date/time-taken' and that's it.

FriLigt2,

A couple ideas.

When using the Properties Dialogue box >>>> Slideshow Tab to add files, you can browse to the Folder you want and then select multiple files to add... using either Ctrl-A, or Ctrl-MouseClick on individual files, or other technique. Then 'Okay' or 'Open' Button. Voila, all the selected files are added. You can then arrange the order... but if you had the right sequence in Window Explorer Folder.... Opus (Creator) would bring them in in that order.

When dealing with lots of files, you might look into these two apps, both free:
* IrfanView image viewer
Has a Batch process feature that not only can apply image and graphics operations, but also can copy and rename files (even text files or other files).
* Notepad++ basic editor
Has a number of 'utility' features, I think including renaming and sorting (it's been awhile).

Lar_123,

Thanks for the suggestions, I have used your first suggestion to add the slides sorted. I named them 'name - 001, name - 002, name-003 etc'. That's why I expected them to be shown in that order, but unfortunately that's not the case.

The suggestion from Mack gave me the idea that the name must start with a number. I have not tried that yet, I will do that soon.
If that works-out I will let you know in this forum.

Have you eliminated using the 'map'?

Hi Lar-123.
Don't know what you mean by your question, bu as stated in my opening message, I use the "mapname\*.*" to select all the slides.
I tried also to leave the '*.*' out, but the slides are still shown in a constant wrong order, I still have no clue for this. I even read the manual about it, but there is no remark that tells you in what order they willl appear when you mark the 'all files' box.

I imported the files in the propertybox of the slides, then they appear according to the way they listed there. That is a possible solutiuon, but then the imp-file will grow very big. I tried to avoid that with this *.* method. The advantgage is also, that you can alter the slides in the map, without having it to export the imp-file again That saves a lot of time!

Yeah, that was ~stupid on my part. I don't use Creator app (use OpusPro) and in my read of first post I thought Creator had some feature for mapping or aggregating content. Oh well.

As for sort order of the files in your external folder, I think Opus/Creator will simply run through these by Filename in ascending order. As a workaround, you could use IrfanView Batch-rename on your files (to simply put the date-time info in the front of the filename... see attached screenshot of Irfan Help).

I'm not sure that is true. The properties >>> slideshow files is just listing names/paths (I think). True that when publishing, the 'Resource Folder' will grow significantly. It is a matter of how you plan to distribute the Pub and the content.

It has been a while, but my remark is right. The bad thing is that I am busy to rename thousands of pictures in '###-picturename'. The good news is IT WORKS. So put the number first for a good result!

The bad news is that the solution 'giving a number in front of the name' has ended to work. i don't know how, I don't know why.

The biggest advantage of my solution still is that I can change the pictures in the folders very easily or use a different set of folders by using the 'change folder adress' and so adjust the pictures for my audience. Second by consolidating the resources, the pictures are not included within the imp file.

I do not see what causes the problem by using this solution to sort the pictures in the folder for instance by date taken and why cab opus not use the order that they have in the folder!! Is it realy the only possibility to present pictures in a folder?

Not exactly sure what you are saying inyour post. Are You saying your publication used to work before and it doesn't work now?

Unless there is some kind of file corruption that has affected the original publication file, the problem must surely be something external to your Opus publication assuming you are using the same Creator software ect that you used when you created your publication.

If you have your original ilm files maybe republishing might be worth a go.

If you are saying that you used to number each photo file to get it to play in numerical order and now the numbering does not work, then that's another issue.

Can you repost giving a clearer explanation?

Thanks

Graham
