Post subject: | Unable to publish DVD with v7.05 and Win7 |
Hi, I have had a lot of trouble trying to publish to DVD using Creator 6 and WinXP. The publish routine failed to include all the necessary DVD files that would make it recognisable as such. It produced a audio and video folder comprising of two vob files but nothing else such as an .IFO file. I am a very long time user of the Opus product (all the way back to the early Illuminatus days) but this was my first attempt at making a DVD rather than an .exe. So I downloaded v7.05 and tried it on both a WinXP and Win7 machine and it does not complete the full DVD publish process. It seems to compile the files ok but when it should be running the video compiling program (step two in the process) a window very briefly flashes on the screen and then disappears and I am told the process is finished. This should be the lengthy process of compiling the video into the separate audio and video files for burning later. The same occurs on my Win 7 laptop. The machine I am currently using has just been built and has very little on it but v7.05. Specs are Intel i7 870 2.93 GHz Quad core, 4gb ram, 1tb HD and ATI HD4850 graphics with Win 7 Home Premium 32 bit. Any help would be appreciated. Cheers, John |

Hi John, This problem was already reported with regards to v7.04 but DW released v7.05 which included a fix. DVD publish does work for both creator and Opus's current versions. If you have v7.05 and have tried it on different machines and then I'd wonder if your doing something wrong with the publication. Have you tried a very basic DVD. Just add a standard MPG1 video and a page trigger to sync to end that exits when video is complete. Mack |

Mack, I just tried three very simple one page programs. 1. Video page - with one mpg1 told to end after 4 mins in publication settings. 2. Normal page - with one mpg1 sync to end and exit. 3. Normal page with no video just one text box. All did exactly the same thing as I described above. The second stage of the publication process tries to open for a split second, then closes which leaves me with the window saying everything has finished. It wants to open but something shuts it down. Virus checker? I use AVG. Cheers, John |

Hi John, I don't use AVG anymore, but when it was installed, the Opus directory was added to the exclusion list because that AV did cause problems. Here's a sample publication that I've just used to create a DVD which works. Just load and publish: http://sandbox.interaktiv.co.uk/temp/DVD.zip Mack |

Mack, Thanks for sample program. 1. I tried it on a XP pro machine with Creator 7.05 and it didn't publish (same problem as before). 2. I tried it on my new Win 7 machine with Creator 7.05 and it didn't publish (same problem as before) Note : with AVG turned off. 3. I tried a similar program I wrote on a XP pro machine with Creator 6.1 and it worked! Out of ideas. John |

Just had a brain wave. Could it be that that the Win 7 machines don't have a installed mpeg decoder? If you where could I download one? Cheers, John |

Quite the reverse. It's XP that doesn't have a default MPEG2 encoder - suggesting that Opus has it's own. Most W7 machines include Media Center which uses MPEG2 and also now includes MPEG4 (not relevant here of course) I'm also using W7. Have you tried a fresh install of Creator and cleared all the registry entries (there is a post somewhere about this)? Can you upload an example? Mack |

Mack, Firstly, thanks for all the help on this one it is truely appreciated but I am at a loss. I have now tried your program (and my exact replicas of same) on three separate Win 7 machines both 32 and 64bit versions (with the creator 7 folder excluded from AVG checks). And all have the same problem. The video encoding window briefly flashes up then disappears and nothing is saved to the finished project folder. There must be a common reason for all three machines??? I have done a number of reinstalls but not specifically cleared the registry. I could go through and look for Opus or creator references but is there an easier way to do this? I can send you a small program based on yours but the coding is exactly the same and like yours it fails to publish. Surely someone else had a similar problem. Cheers and thanks again. John |

Yes, rather frustrating problem. I checked and to reset everything (should work in Creator). Click the shortcut to launch and then hold down the CTRL and ALT keys until you get a dialogue asking if you wish to reset registry information. Also, I know that you are using Creator 7.05, but when was it downloaded? I installed a version from 3 days ago which worked and it possible that either the download was corrupt or it might have been changed but no revision number alteration. Additionally, within Creator, on the help you should be able to contact DW support, if you use this link it will send key technical data to them which might be useful. Mack |
