I'm just now getting onto Vista, painfully, thanks to my WinXP system dying. Gotta find some loose change for a mthrbd repair. :roll:

Two points.
-- I kept Vista's auto updates turned off, until I got some drivers updated etc etc. When I went to MS Windows site and allowed/ran the updates... the somputer just kept booting and shutting down in an infinite loop. So bad that I could not even get into safe mode or get the RestoreDVD to reformat/restore the OS.
This is a current issue... Jan-Feb 2008, so do a ~google on vista loop or failed updates and such.
-- I came across this site, mainly for its "Vista Recovery Disc"... a repair tool for corrupted boot files and startup problems. It seems they have some other topics and hints there too.

Either get it through Vista updates, or if you want the full installable, it's at

Works for me.

I've just spent 2 days trying to get Ubuntu Linux working properly on a notebook. Installed ok but couldn't get wireless or printers working. I had to stop before the notebook went through the window.

After this, anything Microsoft does (including Vista) looks good.

Now we can all look forward to XP SP3, due out sometime soon ...

Make sure your apps support SP1 and test, test, test before you roll out. (Still true for XP SP3 too by the way).

I guess the main thing is -- if our clients want to use Vista, we have to be prepared to deliver products that work on Vista.
Or any other variation of Windows that Microsoft comes up with.
