Hi, after many attempts at trying to run a smooth news ticker within Opus, that can read from a text file as well as rss feeds and doesnt slow down transitions, I decided to search the web for dedicated apps and here is a list.

All can run on top of fullscreen applications

EasyDeskTicker - http://www.mn-software.com/easydeskticker.html
reads rss, atom and plain text files, you can position the bar anywhere on desktop, adjust colour, font etc, ability to remember last settings. Creates play lists and automatically divides messages on same text file. Price under £10

Text Ticker - http://www.slashbackassociates.com/
Not as good as easydesk as it can only read from one text file at any one time. Keep an eye on future releases for developments. $20

Roxio Media Ticker 3 - http://www.roxio.com/enu/solutions/roxi ... fault.html
Nice little gem that runs your images as well as rss feeds as a news ticker and its free. Does not read plain text files.

RSSCrawler - http://www.mirabyte.com/en/products/rsscrawler.html
Excelent RSS ticker however does not read text files. They also provide the TTicker described as the most powerful newsticker VCL component for Borland Delphi, Turbo Delphi and C++ Builder. With TTicker you can easily integrate a cool looking, smooth scrolling news ticker bar with advanced features into your applications.

NewzCrawler - http://www.newzcrawler.com/ - Haven't tested it.

These are the best tickers I found which were able to provide some or most of the functions I required leaving Opus to concentrate on the main projects.

If you are into creating and editing your own rss feeds there are some excellent apps that simplify the process no end.

Newz Alert - http://www.newzalert.com/

Feed Editor - http://www.extralabs.net/

A simple search on rss editors should yield many results.

Enjoy

Claudio
