A couple of months ago We were told that the Opus 7 was ready and under going beta testing.

Just wondering if DW had an update as to it release. i have called the office a number of times to be told in the next couple of weeks each time. Are we looking at after Windows 7's release or before.

I got a few new projects due to start in the next month and would like to start them with opus 7.

Cheers
Mark

I'll believe in a new release when I see it, frankly. With the lack of presence and support, I'd bet that many of the Opus customers have gone elsewhere for their multimedia authoring needs. I haven't, because Opus 5.5 is all I'll ever need as I've transitioned for the most part away form multimedia authoring.

Even if they do release Version 7, and it is jam-packed with useful new features, they'd have to show me that they stand behind their products (like they did until this last year) before I bought it.

I agree completely with your comments. I've used Opus for 10 years, and have 6.4 but because of the poor customer support I will not be upgrading.

It's a real shame, ain't it? I've been a customer for 9 or 10 years as well. And I remember when I could truthfully say that there was no better support team than Digital Workshop.

The answer is very simple: Make do with the fabulous program DW has created. If it doesn't do what you want, go and try to get some other software package to solve your personal problem.

Do you really think making threats to "not upgrade" is going to make DW release software sooner? Do you think they are "holding back" a new release to irritate you? Could it be they are testing it, and fixing bugs? Would you really prefer a release with known problems/defects/bugs? What do you think a new release is going to offer which can't already be done in OPUS? (i.e. "What have YOU listed in the Wish List section?")

Next time you get the "urge" to write "I'm going to pick-up my ball and go home," instead take that same amount of time and learn a new feature within the existing OPUS product. Please don't tell me you are an expert at every existing feature. If you were, you probably could create anything you think you currently need.

Fred, is this about the original post by netty? If so, you're being too harsh. It's natural to wonder when something's going to be released, especially when they keep telling him something that turns out to be wrong ("in a few weeks").

If this about my post and/or Connected's post, you have misunderstood, and I invite you to return to the posts and read them again. We said that it's not about a time frame at all. It's not about "when the product is going to be released". It's about the lack of support and not wanting to buy a product that, based on the experiences of a year or more, we can't really expect to be properly supported.

I have no Problem waiting for the next release even if it's not going to be for another year.
I was just Intersted if it was worth waiting to start the New projects as I'm told that version 7 has more text options which would be useful for the projects ahead.

Everyday I learn more about the power of Opus much of it from the great people on this forum.

I was not having a go at DW. I would much prefer For DW to release a product that is 100% ready than rush it out half finished.

However I understand that this is a users forum and not DW Tech Support but maybe we could have a Development Topic just to let us know how things are going without giving anything away to the competition.

I for one will be upgrading to opus 7 no matter how long it takes to arrive.

I know the Opus since version 2. From what I've been following, the software has evolved considerably since then. It's hard work by its developers, improving a product that in my view, has always had more resources to popular programs on the market, like the old macromedia shockwave.
Your ability to interact with the User, augmented by practical application of scripting language feature, is a big difference.
So, patience and faith! If a new version will go for sure will be one more step in providing new resources and interacting with the End User!
