Perhaps someone can help me. I have been trying to get PRO 05 to work for over 2 months, but I have been unsuccessful. I really want to use it because of all its neat features.

I have installed, uninstalled and cleaned the registry about ten times and I still cannot get it to work. I tried using it on a new computer (WXP) but had real problems. That computer has been returned to the manufacturer. I am trying to run PRO 05 on my old machine (98 SE). I have installed SR 1 and have tried it both with and without the install, but to no avail. I have updated the video adapter.

The problem: PRO always opens with a prompt to go on line (which I cancel - no problem.) If I change any options under tools, and start to work, PRO crashes. If I select PROPERTIES (right click or CTRL R or CTRL E), PRO crashes. It does not matter whether I make the selection from the page itself or from the organizer, it still crashes. If I try to use the timeline for an action (e.g., hiding a text), PRO crashes. I have tried other graphics programs and they run OK. The error message says, "Illegal operation...will be shut down." It may not be related, but some of the keyboard shortcuts do not work right.

Does anyone have any suggestions - I am dead in the water.

Thank you,
Don

Don --

Sorry to hear of your problems with OPUS 05. I have OPUS 05 installed on a Windows XP, P4, 3.2GHz, 1GB RAM computer with two 200GB HDs. I do large videos, audio, and animations on this machine. Since this board has been hearing such positive comments about the new OPUS 05 features, it seems almost everyone has been using 05 successfully.

Steve Hensen has Windows 98, and he's running OPUS 05 (of course he's upside down in Australia, so maybe that's something to try - ha ha). Please tell us more about your hardware. I sense you already know that's more than likely the problem. New computers with incredible GHz, RAM, and HDs are quite affordable today. I networked my old Windows ME computer to my new XP, so moving data files is quite easy. That's one of the reasons I hesitated about getting a new CPU. It's actually been quite painless, and the speed of the new machine will spoil you.

All this to get to the point -- I think your problems will disappear with a good, new XP computer. Sorry there's no simple "other" solution.

Don,

Go to the help drop down menu in Opus and select the contact technical
support. Put a brief description of the problem and we will look into it.
(Note we are not back in the office until Tuesday.) If you use the above
method it will give us a break down of your PC spec and may help get to
the bottom of the problem. The other option would be to copy the
systems break down here.

Regards

Brenden Knifton

Fred and Brendon,

Thanks for your comments.

Fred, you have convinced me that my problem is hardware. I have an XP computer arriving in about one week. P4, 3.2 GHz, 1 GB RAM, 120 GB HD (root - drive c:\), 200 GB HD for projects, 200 GB removable HD, DVD-RW (+/-), separate DVD.

I was still puzzled about my problem, so I reviewed every thing I had done. I realized that when installing PRO 05, by habit I did not install the samples because I did not need them. Wondering if this might have some effect, I cleaned everything out and did a new install INCLUDING the SAMPLES. I re-booted and then ran SR1. The major problems were eliminated. The screen prompting me to go on-line continues to appear as PRO 05 starts to load, but that is a simple escape to get rid of it.

The sluggishness and remaining small problems will be resolved, I am sure, when I get the XP computer.

I really do like the new features in PRO 05 and am anxious to run it on the XP computer.

Again, thanks for your help.

Don Flynn

Don --

Congrats on ordering a new XP CPU. I know you will love it. It sounds like a monster (of course, I thought that of my 800MHz 512MB RAM P3 years ago -- LOL).

Please don't forget to write and tell us the results once you get things installed. In the future, when others read this board, they will wonder how things turned out -- unless you give us a follow-up report.
