I came across an interesting tool, Jedox/Palo. Turns out it is nothing I need, but others here may find it either has a purpose for them, or else the Jedox Demos just might 'inspire' how to use Opus/Excel for some data handling, albeit with simpler scope.

Palo, available with a free, full license and professional support, is the alternative to commercial OLAP products, which may easily cost anywhere between 20K and 100k Euros or more.
It is an OLAP database...Central data management and multiuser- capability along with versioning and user management put an end to the well-known Excel-Chaos.

I don't like to play in Excel much. Just never 'got into it'. That is why I've explored other alternatives.... and am focusing on an SQL database to store and organize which data and documents a User can 'pull up' at different steps in a Pub. SQLite3 seems like it is going to be a great fit with Opus and especially with the power of Arrays in Opus. (so "who needs a Cube" anyway?) ***

Of course with Opus there is PostWebData and GetWebData, so Multi-user work or play with common datasets is already within reach. (google Apps, Ajax, other.... also represent interesting uses and developments out there).

***BTW, this is just an opinion of mine and I do not speak for DW.
