Does anybody still have access to physical machines running these OSs? I'd like to ascertain which versions of Opus publications are able to run.

Regards,

Mack

Hi Mack

I can blow the dust off an old laptop running W98 if this helps. Small hard disk and limited RAM though.

Regards

Roger

Hi Roger,

Yes it would.

I've created several test files that are basically identical. It's a simple 'hello world' text box on a standard page - with use DirectX if available. Published as normal except Opus splash.

There are two versions:

A zip file: http://sandbox.interaktiv.co.uk/OpusVersions.zip
An ISO file: http://sandbox.interaktiv.co.uk/OpusVersions.iso

Each contains an example from Opus 4 - Opus 7.

My main priority is to establish what will run on W95 but testing a physical W98 machine will also be of use as I'm having problems getting one set-up.

Regards,

Mack

Sorry for the delay. Both versions run very happily in Win98, Mack. I greeted the world eight times on your behalf.

Regards

Roger

Do you have customers still on those systems? Interesting to know it still works on 12 year old technology.

From my own point of view I no longer support Windows 9X for any of my publications.

No-one I know is still using 98. But, yes, it seems to work successfully with Opus programs up to and including V7.

Thanks Roger,

Good to know. I've run them all on W7x64 without problems except that Opus 4 / Opus 6 switch to aero. 5.5XE doesn't for some reason.

I've also run them on W95c and only Opus 4 / 5.5XE work but this was a virtual machine so all I need to do now is see if anybody has anything that old out there?

I spoke to DW support and they couldn't see why Opus 6 wouldn't run under W95 but I've not been able to confirm this or get it to work. It is antiquated by most OS standards, and we wouldn't offer it as 100% supported as you'd limit the design of your publication - but it would be nice to know.

Out of interested, I'd also like to see Illuminatus running again but some swine stole my copy years ago :-(.

Seeing as Illuminatus is no longer available, if you ask DW to authorise me and they approve, I would be happy to post you a copy.

You would have to wait a while though because I'm in China and the Illuminatus cd is in Australia.

Cheers

Graham

Hi Netty,

Thanks for the offer. I will get around to checking with DW. I vaguely recall that even Illuminatus had a 30day trial - so I'm sure an evaluation edition must be around some where. I'll probably open it up, rave about how ahead of it's time it was and then cry out for my v7 edition after about 10mins :-)

My key issue is whether any of the examples posted run under W95, but even this is turning in professional curiosity.

Mack
