Greetings to all

When a post contains URL links to, for example, highlight an issue or discussion point or to post a publication, are there any expectations regarding how long those links should remain alive for?

The reason for this question is that I do have quite a URL links and I don't want to offend anyone or harm the integrity of this fantastic forum by removing the files the URL expects to find.

Advice would be appreciated

Links die all the time, just a fact-of-life.

If you are referring to files you created (and host or have hosted), then I would say 1-month to 6-months for Opus pubs/.imp examples that help solve a how-to. Longer would be better if the topic was a pesky issue that more people might encounter over a period of time.

Another way I look at it...
If the attachment or linked file, or even a general URL, was central to the discussion -- really needed to keep the thread congruent, making sense -- then well 'a real long time' is the answer IMO. If the discussion is incomplete without it, it also becomes a matter of considering when the thread topic would cease to be relevant or useful.

Of course we have a good degree of collective knowledge built-up, so someone should be able to help fill-in answers, solutions, examples -- again when needed.
