Hi chaps,

I'm thinking of including my email address on my profile, does anyone know if it would be harvested by spam bots? I won't if that's the case, as I've just had to close one email account due to spam overload.

Thanks

Melanie

As far as I aware, bots can only harvest e-mail addresses if the full address appears as plain text in the HTML source of the page.

In this forum, all e-mail addresses are encrypted in the database and if you hover your cursor over an e-mail button you should notice that the status bar shows the link as a user ID query, not the plain text e-mail address. Indeed, the e-mail address should never appear as plain text in the source of the page, unless you have physically typed the address into the body of a forum post.

I hope this helps.

Kind regards,

I tend to have one email address I use soley for public websites, which has a whopping spam filter on it!

My feeling is that if it's there it's accessible to crawlynasties. Not compulsory to show it though, I've got mine switched off here.
