I looked on the boards, but didn't find this answer. I'm sure it has been asked before, so please bear with me.
Can ILM4 pubs be imported or converted to Opus seamlessly?
I have run into trouble with my ILM4 pubs running on WinXP. (Some pubs are now telling me it want's a CD in drive D with annoying popups if there is not a CD in the CD drive - ANY CD will do - what's with that?) This only happens in XP, not in 98 or 2000.
I am looking to upgrade to Opus, hoping that this problem will disappear with the new version, but don't know which version I need. Basically, I need the same features that ILM4 has. Nothing more, nothing less.
Any insight is greatly appreciated.

ILM 4.51 publications will import into Illuminatus Opus Pro 2.81. However the latest and best version of Opus is Opus Pro 04. Opus Pro 04 will import 2.81 pubs but not ILM 4.51. So in theory you could import an ILM 4.51 pub into Opus 2.81 -- then import that into Opus Pro 04. (latest release is 04.50)

My advice would be to download the evaluation version of Opus Pro 04. I would also tend to take the plunge and start from scratch creating a new publication in Opus Pro 04, rather than buying Opus 2.81 just for the sake of upgrading an old ILM 4.51 pub.

If you have been used to ILM 4.51, then "Opus Pro 04.50" will blow your socks off!!

Further to Steve's response, Illuminatus 4.51 publications cannot be imported directly into Opus Pro 04. However, you could import your Illuminatus 4.51 publications into the previous version of Opus (Illuminatus Opus Pro), then open the project into Opus Pro 04. The following steps should assist you in this process:

- Download and install the 30-day evaluation version of Illuminatus Opus Pro 2.6 from the following location:

http://212.100.247.34/evaluations/Opus_ ... _Setup.exe

- Once installed, please launch Illuminatus Opus Pro, click File > Open and load in your Illuminatus 4.51 publication

- Once the project has loaded, click File > Save As... and save the project, ensuring that you do not overwrite the original project (I would recommend adding 'Opus Pro Version' to the end of the existing filename)

- Now install and launch Opus Pro 04. Click File > Open and load in the project you just saved. The file should now import and display without problems.

As there have been so many changes and enhancements made to the Opus codebase since Illuminatus 4.51, including the implementation of a completely new text, graphics and video engine, you may find that some objects in the imported publication have become misaligned. However, it should be relatively simple to check through each page of the publication and correct any problems.

Downloaded the suggested evaluation version of Opus Pro 2.6. I seems like this is the way we will go.
Does this version create a finished pub that has an install (with icon on desktop)? All I get is a file that runs independently, but must be copied to a hard drive (or CD) to run.
Or is that handled in Pro 04?

The Publish wizard (Publication > Publish > Create a Standalone Executable) creates a standalone .exe file which can be burned to CD and autoruns when inserted into the end-user's system.

When the publish process is complete, you are given the option to Launch Distribution Wizard. This wizard will package the published executable into a setup file which will install the publication to the user's Program Files directory and create any necessary Start Menu and Desktop shortcuts.

To run the Distribution Wizard with previously-published files, simply launch Opus and click Tools > Distribution Wizard. Now follow the on-screen instructions to select the appropriate application file and installation options.

I think I've screwed up.

I downloaded and evaluated Opus and decided to purchase it. The main selling point was that it would import my ILM4.5 files, thus allowing me to not have to rebuild them from scratch. (I have hundreds)

I purchased Opus Pro 04 and just received the boxed set. I previewed the older version (2.8?), but messed up and bought 04 and this version won't import my ILM files.

What do I do now? Do I have to send back the new version and get an older Pro version? I want to go with Opus Pro, but I HAVE to be able to import ILM files.

Open and save your publication in version 2.8.
The resulting files will then open in Opus 04.

I understand, but I don't have 2.81. I only had the demo copy, and it expired. If the only way to get ILM into 04 is thru 2.81, I'll have to return 04 and purchase 2.81. My company won't let me purchase both versions, simply for a one-time 'import/save as', so I can get them in 04.
