I am currently putting together an "enhanced" DVD for our Safety Department. The final disk will hold an English and Spanish version of a training program. There will also be a collection of PDF files related to the topic, a couple of pre-built PowerPoint presentations on the subject, resources for further resources building and anything else we can think of that the field trainers might need and will fit on the disk.

I would like to be able to have the end user launch the DVD files from with in the Opus publication. Anybody out there doing anything like this? I can get individual .vob files (the video portions of a DVD) to launch with the associated software player, but the menu navigation is not there.

I have Opus Pro XE v. 2.81. Yes, I'll probably be upgrading in the next year as soon as they decide how much budget I have to play with.

Thanks for any ideas or insights

Tom --

On a CD-ROM presentation I built for a client, they wanted a much higher resolution video than the standard MPEG-1. It also had to be larger than MPEG-1's default size.

I made a video, and saved it as an MPEG-2 file. Using OPUS, I made a Video Object 720x540 (which I believe is the default DVD size) on a new Page. I had a Button with a Rollover which indicated you needed to be able to view DVDs on this computer to see this video (if they don't, then you won't see anything).

This worked very well. Client was pleased. Could this help you?

Fred,

What I am putting together is a hybrid DVD that can be run on a computer with a DVD drive and used in a standard set top DVD player.

I just need to figure out which file needs to be launched that will run the associated DVD software on a user's machine and I should have it licked. Than again, I may be able to launch the Opus pub from the DVD screen and work it that way.

I have ideas to explore, so I'll try them out and report back.

Just one thing on mpeg2 files, it's not yet native on many machines, so I would keep that in mind. However if you know the spec of your target audience/machine which has the correct codec, perhaps the way to go. Particularly if your distributing on DVD data, the chances are high to be spec'd right for mpeg2 playback.
