Due to the bookmarking not working as described, I've developed work arounds using the registry. This has been very successful and allows for a number of record keeping functions beyond simple bookmarking. However, I've run into a problem.

I suddenly ran into a machine that is not creating a registry entry for Digital Workshop when the publication is run. Other machines seem to create it just fine. In this case, it was just a little program I created for my kids to learn about money, and it worked fine on another machine at home. However, I've written a major (253 pages) software simulation for use at over 200 locations at my company and I cannot afford to have this happen out there even once.

Is there a way to ensure that the DW registry value under HKEY_current_user\software, etc. is created on any machine? Would it happen if I used an "install" routine rather that an executable pub?

Hi Dave,

Can think of two things that can cause registry write issue:

1. Vista!
2. Running a publication without suitable access rights.

Not sure what the entry has to be for DW, you can create any new branch that you like. All Interaktiv software stores options / bookmarks under Interaktiv.

Thanks mackavi.

1. Won't be running Vista until Bill uses his iron boot to make me.

2. There are no access rights to the machines on my home network. The program works fine on one machine with the registry entry being created, and not on another. Both are running the same version of XP.

is there some utility or program running in the background that could be interfering with registry writes?
Try searching the registry to see if the string is being saved in the registry at all.

cheers
Paul

Hmm... Would really know what to look for as to things that could interfere with a registry write. Guess I could kill everything.

I checked when it failed, and there was no DW key where it should be.
