 Post subject: Changing layers for an object

I think I know the answer, but I just wanted to be sure before I make myself dive into the wonderful world of scripting.

I have a stack of frames that I have arranged to look like a stack of pictures. At the click of a button, I want one of the frames to move out and move back on to the top of the stack of pictures (as if you were pulling out a picture that was relevant to the topic being discussed).

I have worked it out with two frames, but I will possibly have up to ten frames in the "picture stack". I just used the animation control Move Object To Layer to change the layers, but you can't select multiple objects with that control.

So the question is, do I need to work this in a script instead of creating an action step for each and every object, or is there a way to select multiple objects to affect with the Move Object To Layer control?

Yeah, that's basically it. I was having the transition triggered by a button rather than clicking on the item itself, but no real difference there.

I had come up with the same process, but I was hoping to avoid the string on animation actions need to move a good number (10 - 12) of frames at once. I would like to be able to select multiple objects to affect with the action - kind of the way you can select multiple items with the Show or Hide action.

Just looking for an easier way (like always ;-))

Hi Tom,

Yes this would be quicker (I supposes easier is relative) using a script rather than adding loads of actions for each frame.

Whether you click the frame or a button, I'd pass the frame number to a function which would run through a loop lowering the layer value of the other frames whilst raising the layer value of the select frame.

If clicking the frame - then you'd simply modify the passed value for the called function. If using buttons, you could simply has a counter that went up and down scrolling through the images.

P.S there is an issue using layering whereby whilst the image appears on top the mouse responds to the object that is actually higher in the navigator :-|

That's what I thought, but I was trying to keep within the no scripting guidelines.

Have you tried multiframes? I would think you'd be able to set up a multiframe and then have your buttons go to a specific frame of the multiframe. That way you could put all sorts of things in the multiframe's frame and I would think you'd be good to go. Haven't tested it of course, but just off the top of my head it seems like it would fulfill your request.
