Hi Guys/Gals

I didi the web tutorial and got it to POST and GET web data ( Very Cool ) now each process needed a script . Does each process need a script Example

do u need a script to search for the data ( example : name )
do you need a script to delette ?????

Basicly does every OPUS database command need a PHP script to interract with the web database ????

Does anyone have these PHP scripts ? and are you willing to share them ? If not what is the best site to DL PHP database scripts ???

I realize i ask many questions , but i want to learn and understand the process fully so that i can take advantage of such a Very Cool Feature.

Al,

It's too bad this went unanswered. I surmise everyone has been busy... which could be a good thing.

I was recently reviewing Opus Help files (std/basic, not OpusScript). Seems there is actually some good explanation there for the .php files needed. I'd start there and see what 'hurdles' show up. GetWebData topic. I'll be looking into that in another month or so.

Cheers,
Larry

Thanks for the Reply Lar....

I must admit that web database front end really got me excitied but when i saw a lack of support OR understanding from the OPUS field i felt as if i was on a journey of my own LOL . I have since been toying around with another database software tha looks like it has a future and a great support backend for it .

I wish there was better support/documentation on OPUS with concerns to the Web Based data storage and recall ( cool stuff )......but i guess not enough people understand it to back up the interrest .

Ps: doing a search and it seems i was the only 1 asking many questions about this........how come it always seems as if i am blazing the trail threw the forrest ( smile )

Al

Al,
I can agree with you on a couple points, but not all.
'yes' and 'yes' to
Quote:
I wish there was better support/documentation on OPUS with concerns to the Web Based data storage and recall
Although there are some great tutorials on DB in general and GetWebData / PostWebData, the methods for Get and Post web are for standard Opus triggers and actions. I'd like to see an "end-to-end" for the equivalent OpusScript approach.

And (I would wish for) help and documentation to be better. Perhaps some expanded Appendix sections for things like database operations and this Post Web stuff.

However, I do not share your assessments or conclusions.

1) not enough forum support for Web Based data storage and recall...
I do not expect someone to write the solution for me. As with any skillset, there is a learning curve and there is cost and value in deploying those skills. We create value and opportunities as developers or businesses by having certain 'differential skills' and I respect that there is some wise judgment to not give away all one's secrets or hard-gained expertise. I am thankful for the so many 'pivotal' points of help I get here. IMO.

2) doing a search / not enough people understand it to back up the interest...
While you won't find an end-to-end solution here, there are plenty of topics and posts touching on the subject. Do a search on: .php

I think people are busy, and it comes down to a topic such as this getting into areas of web administration expertise. It can be touched-on here, but is a subject area into its own. Probably that knowledge-base might better be found in sites and forums dedicated to the server side.

IMO.

I Hear ya Lars,

But are we competing here or growing in a direction that takes us farther. You guys who do alot of support here are VERY good about sharing and I Applaude you all ( seriously )....... I get very discouraged when i can see the carrot but its unaptainable due to some one else has the KEY and wont tell us where it is......LOL

I have been spending days searching the net for programs that better support bringing Databases to the web in a NON-Programing enviroment and have found quite a few hopefuls . These software solutions are just for that and there support forums are much more tailored and responisve to the users needs .

So i guess the real question is should i buy an orange from an apple sales man OR go right to the orange store ( smile ) . If i am gonna spend $ 500.00 for someone to devlop an APP for me because i cant do that section ( because i dont know where to look for the answer ) ,OR buy someone elses software thats will teach me how to achieve it and cut my learning curve so i can do it myself . I guess thats the age old question...........

Am I Learning.......Hell YA
Am i cutting Corners......Of Course
Am i truely getting my best solutions.........Not Sure ?

But i am confident and willing to share with others as you have all shared with me..................

Ps: what do you think of Alpha 5 V9 software ? i have been testing there stuff and getting great results...and its fairly easy

Al

Some of us are competing -- for real money. I can't afford to share everything I know about Opus, and some other users do the same.
Opus is a commercial product being used for commercial purposes.
That doesn't stop me from answering questions, but I like to see someone's attempt at something before I help out.

Totally understandable and expected i would say......

lets get back to the point.............

The Tutorial for posting web data is very good and showed me the way to many idea's . The problem is that the learning curve to acccomplish the task at a little higher level is missing .

Now my solution to this was to drop OPUS and resolve the issue by getting anothing software that considered that missing step to be NEEDED and to make there software more easily understood and usuable by the MASS.

Before Opus many coded........then OPUS made many steps easier.........very quickly now many secret/non-sharable steps are being revealed by other software that uses those cost cutting innovational teachings to sell their product....

A secret today is common knowledge tomorrow..............thats the world....
Now a couple months ago i asked for help to make a MP3 player...many helped me and i made a DJ program ( simple BUT working ) i shared it with whom even wanted it and i posted any fixes to the bugs i encountered. I felt as other helped me that they too had a piece of the knowledge and deserved to know what i did so that they too could learn.

I am all for MONEY , but personaly i am guilty in the way that i design for knowledge and understanding . I have NO interrest in the money side and if i make a buck , well hell cool........LOL

You wanna kill your self laughing , i made an App in opus and sold $ 8,000 canadian dollars worth of it........you die laughing when you see what i did look at www.underware.ca i made that app as a joke and a friend made the site and sold it for me . I made the app for a local computer radio show as a neat tool....They kept saying they wished they could access a Windows program from the desktop...

Let me know what ya think..............if any one wants to see how i made it...just ask

Al

Hi Al,
back to the initial subject :)

One of the issues with Opus is you need to use something like PHP to do most things online.
It isn't that no-one will help you, it's just that very few Opus users have this knowledge to share with others, and those that do might not visit this forum frequently.
You will probably have to lever your Opus knowledge and learn a bit more about PHP, or whatever server side language you want to work with.

cheers
Paul

PS -- I think the app you made is cool :)

Well put Paul,

Would i puchase a module that made PHP scrits on the fly to handle the database web functions ( HELL YA )...........so if any of you guys can develop a app to make simple database scripts/hooks , you have a audiance to se to LOL.....

Actually when i went searching the web for such programs i found quite a few programs that handle the database to web problem quite easy with genies that make the scripts on the fly for you.....

All we need to do is find away to add these technolegies to OPUS and then every user could easily make apps with hooks to databases . There is NO question in my mind that at this time and for awhile longer , Database web apps is where the money is....

Knowledge is Power , Power = Money = more power (Political Science) LOL.

I have been playing with Alpha 5 V9 and its very cool and very powerful . My intentions are to use this software for database app's as its learning curve is much smaller than learning PHP LOL.....I am sure in the not to distant future they will have a easy to PHP developer ( i actually seen 1 already in beta )...... check out alpha 5 , they have 75 % off sales every 4 few months just download the beta and leave your email and they wil email you the sale prices every once and awhile..

Al

My knowledge of PHP is limited to say the least. However, there are plenty of web tutorials. I have created applications which communicate with MySQL DBs and I shamelessly plagiarised routines from the Internet. I created PHP files for each function - logging on, fetch data, post data, etc. I am sure that there would be ways to combine all this into one routine - I just don't have the skills to do it.

I found this and this useful, but there are dozens of other very good sources.

PSPad is an excellent code editor.

Awsome Links David ,

With more basic information like this we could build a small wealth of beginner information ........

Hi Lar,

Thanks for the Wavemaker link. It looks like an interesting IDE for Ajax development. If you don't mine pure coding, then check out Aptana Studio, it combines most web languages into a practical interface.
