Here's a simple example using the video object to play an MP3, get the length and format it for display.

Neat example Paul,

How did u get the display <Vlength>

The problem is that we are using 2 mp3 files at the same time and they each need their own volume control which you can't seem to do if you use the Video path to play the MP3.....

Now i did notice that your <vlength> also incorectly displays the length in time as outputted by Time clock and windows media ......Weird...is there a bug in my system or can anyone confirm this..

Al

see the script for vLength calculations.
On my PC, the pub calculates the same length in time as that indicated by Windows Media Player.

Al,

I've used the Yankee Doodle MP3 from the media folder in the IKIQ publication to test this lenght issue and it works in both mine and paul's example reporting the same lenght as WMP and the Opus' time marker.

It also reports correctly in the new media bar in beta2 of IKIQ. If you haven't already got this, download load the latest test from here:

www.interaktiv.co.uk/IKIQ.zip

hit tab onec the pencil countdown has finish and navigate to the YD question. The counter will show the elasped time and moving the mouse over the counter will show the duration - IT SHOULD READ 1m09s.

If it doesn't then there is something wrong on your system, prehaps the MP3 codec (what version of WMP are you using). If it does work then I guess it might be your MP3's.

Mack

I think i found out why , could the Audio compression have anyhting to do with the way its read for timing . Usually most people place their MP3's at 128 bit mine are at CD-Quality ( 320 Kb)...................i will do some testing

NEWS FLASH <---------------------------- Compression of the MP3 is what reports the wrong timing . If played at 128 Kb its reports back properly..........if at 320 it is wrongly reported......

Wow really had you all going..................... LOL

Thanks for helping..........

1 More bug<----------------- is there anyway to control the volume of 2 different Video's if playing at the same time ????

I know , i ask all the good questions

Many Thanks All

Al Barnes

Look under Actions -> Change Volume. Notice the area called "Apply To." The first video automatically is played in Channel #1. The second would go into Channel #2. You can select which channel you want to control, then "Set to Value."

I've used this to control background music when a voice over narration comes on, and I wanted the music to be reduced only during the narration, then come back up to full volume.

I'm not sure why you called this "1 more bug?" I do know you'll need lots of resources to play two videos at once, especially if they are on a CD-ROM.

Hi Fred,

I haven't tried your Idea yet but i will . The reason i want to run 2 video's is because i want to record andmix them as i want....Thats why i need to beable to control the audio.....

AS you may have read my post about compression Mack i have done even more looking into this matter . It seems many MP3 conversion programs now LOSELY hold the bitRate at your chosen setting as they TRY to make it sound better by allowing it to increase in quality . By doing this you can have a song set to 128kb but really records at a variable rate and could go as high as 320kb .

This is not suitable as the math in OPUS is based on 128 kb NON-Variable bit rate . I have looked into my MP3 conversion programs and ONLY 1 offers the option to make the conversion NON-Variable . Microsoft Media Player allows for a variable bit rate and in the New versions , but doesn't let you chose the right to pick a NON-Variable setting.....

So have I learned something ?.................Hell Ya.......Bigger isn't always better .............. LOL

Al Barnes

Ps: can you see any work around to the varying Bit rate ?
