I'm afraid I'm not sure, since I don't know the terms when practically applied.

What I've learned about my LMS: it will only successfully apply the LMS features, like eCommerce, if the lesson is imported using a manifest. The LMS can use a URL, but the item viewed will then be separate and the LMS functionality, other than viewing it, will be lost. So, importing the Opus SCORM via manifest is essential. But, I'm not sure, after that, if anything else is needed. But, once the Opus SCORM template is used, in order to produce the manifest, then the scripts must work enough not to cause page errors and fail to navigate.





If I can get a very basic Plexus pub re-formatted into Plexus SCORM, then use the Wizard to publish it as SCORM, then get it running in the LMS, I would have accomplished most of what I am trying to do. Then all I would need to do in the future is create similar pubs with more pages, interactions, etc.

Sounds like you need an asset. The difference is that an asset is simply a collection of resources that has been packaged together whereas an SCO allows the resources to communicate with the LMS.

Don't know if it will work, but I'd suggest that you simply create a new publication and add the two pages + hello world.

Then in the properties dialogue change to the type to SCORM. This will allow you to have a simple publication without any of the scripting required for communication but still run the packager when you publish. (Of course you could create a SCORM pub from outset and just delete).

Thanks, I'll try creating a regular pub, then changing to SCORM for publishing.

If I tried instead to start with SCORM and then delete, what specific items would I delete in order to get to the essential manifest file (and any other essential items)?

I might be misunderstanding this thread but just by way of a sanity check here can I point out that the manifest is just a catalogue which tells the LMS what you are providing. It does not include any SCORM functionality.

I don't think the problem is with the LMS not recognising what is being uploaded or have I missed a step. Why are you trying to create a dumb manifest?

The Opus SCORM publishing assumes you are creating a SCO and so the manifest reflects that.

Hi Paul,

I apologize for not being clearer. What I am trying to do is use an Opus Plexus pub in my LMS to take advantage of the LMS's eCommerce feature. The LMS integrates with PayPal, so in order to view, the user would need to make a PayPal payment. The LMS automates this so it is basically click and purchase.

In the past, when I tried to use a regular Opus Plexus pub, the only way to add it to the LMS was by pointing to its URL (the pub was separately uploaded to my site). This would not prevent any user from navigating directly to the URL, bypassing the payment via PayPal. However, if the pub is imported into and included in the LMS, then it is not separate and access to it can only be through the LMS via payment.

So, the goal, in this case, would be to use the most minimal SCORM features to enable the pub to be imported via its manifest file and incorporated into the LMS.

I tried Macks' latest suggestion, starting with a regular pub, and converting it to SCORM before publishing. I have now had a chance to test this in the LMS on my site: success!!! No errors, runs OK.

The only issue to be solved, however, is preventing the lesson from being viewed outside of the LMS. While it is included/embedded in the LMS and a box is checked in the LMS to prevent viewing the lesson if run outside of an LMS, it still runs.

I checked with the LMS support: (1) the 'do not run if not in LMS' feature is not set up to work with third-party lessons, and (2) they are checking to see if any script can be added to the lesson's SCORM scripst to get this feature to work.

For other projects, using complete SCORM scripting, Opus SCORM and the LMS should be able to capture data, like lesson completion, quiz scores, etc., which could also be useful in my other eLearning projects.

At this point, I'm just experimenting with different ways to use the feature and finding it a wonderful addition!
