Dear DW
I am in the process of preparing some demo cds for a client to pass on to potential buyers but I have realized that the time period for demos in Opus Pro XE 4.0 IS NOT working! as well as the proper id for key generation and key for publication is not quiet right
After the period expired, still it let you continue using the product!
Has anybody noticed this?
I have to re-do the project on Opus Pro XE 2.8 since my client need this in a hurry (they always needs something in a hurry!)

I have posted a similar problem on the Opus Pro & Pro XE Board. "Generous Evaluation in the new XE"

I assume that if I keep knocking at the door, one day it will open....
Please, we need an answer on when this issue will be resolved.
I am about to lose my client and that will be very bad for business but also to my reputation and certainly I will not be amused if this happens.

I promised to my client that this can be done in Opus Pro XE 4.0 and now I can't deliver....

I have tried to re-do the project using Opus Pro XE 2.8 but since the original was made using the most up-to-date version I can't go back on this. The project is too complex to start from scratch.

I have invest quiet amount of time and effort in this and now I am about to loose this contract and I don't think it is fair for you to release a software with such a major bug.

I am sorry if I am loosing my cool but I am about to lose not only big money here but most of all, I'll lose a client trust!

Hi Trevor and German

While it's true that the "Display standard evaluation dialog"
is not working, this can be easily worked around using the
"Go to this page" option.

I understand that this IS a major bug, but it does seem more sensible,
considering the urgency of meeting the deadline and your reputation
and project (paycheck) being at stake to simply spend an hour
working around the problem than waiting for a patch, which in all
fairness, may not be an easy fix, and could take awhile for the
folks at DW to provide.

If you guys need help with this, I'm here for you, as always

Cheers
Chris

Most clients are reasonably understanding about a delay in getting a publication -- as long as you tell them before they have done anything that will embarrass them if you don't deliver on time.
An embarrassed client will never forgive you.
If nothing else, a simple timout on the pub might be enough, as long as you inconvenience your client as little as possible when you do deliver the finished product.

Hi Chris and Paul
Thank you for your replies but I have already done what you suggested and the client is not happy. I have done work for her in the past using XE 2.8 and she was expecting if not the better results, at least the same quality.

My mistake was not to check this option before I started the project but hey! you trust the people who produce and sells the product ( well, I do anyway!).

Unfortunately as I said before, I can't start the project from scratch because it is too complex involving videos, soundtracks, flash videos, databases interacting online and the whole lot of scripting. (around the 2.5 Gigabytes mark)

My client is very perfectionist, especially because this DVD represents her e-business card with further material as per people paying to see her very exclusive resources.

She is very patient but when she has already committed herself to deliver this DVD on a formal presentation of her business and everything has been pre-booked then it is very difficult to make her understand that this is beyond me.

I am working like hell producing an alternative delivery of the secure material using Macromedia Director but it may not be finished on time (next friday is her launching).

I have promised my client that if the DVD in full is not ready by tuesday then I'll produce a "short version" of the same for FREE with advise to the potential buyers that they can order the full version later on. And of course, I will give FREE full version later on because she will incur in the extra charges of having to produce a second round of DVD instead of just sending codes to open the original DVD.

I am working for nothing in this project because I do not want to lose this client because it is very important and well connected to many potential clients but my question is: Why DW has not responded to this important issue and delivery a quick patch for this?

Anyway, it is my problem and a BIG lesson on testing the options you want to use before you use them, just in case the producer of the software has missed another important element of the application but is this fair for all of us?

German

Guys --

You all have posted previously and at very high levels, so I know you understand about programming using OPUS. Just create your own code on your first Page which checks the System Date and compares that against any stored variable to determine if you let the viewer continue. I've done this myself several times. It is quite easy to program.

On reflection, I've decided to discuss this topic offline with a few Pro users.

Hi guys
Thank you all for your postings.
As I said before, I have already produced a "lite" version of the whole thing just to make sure my client is served on time.
I have tested the pub and work ok and since it is the lite version it will go on a cd instead of a DVD.
This will eliminate the use of this option for the full package later on but as I said before, this will need a second DVD run which is what my client was trying to avoid.
In other words, I have created two different publications:
1-One lite - demo
2-One Full
She is happy that I am not charging her for my work (of course she is!) but also I have been able to retain her confidence and trust which to me, is more that a dollar amount.
Thank you Paul for your pub. I am sure it will help people in the future and let us hope DW resolve this issue asap. I trust them as usual but sometimes they are a bit slow in give us the help we need.
I can go to sleep now...
Cheers
German

Thanks to all for your input, however, I have a deadline for an evaluation version CD which is to be on the cover of a national magazine soon. I need all of the security features of XE 4 to enable the full version to be activated via e-mail. I don't have the luxury of a lite version or an extended deadline. I have migrated the project to XE 4 and cannot now go backwards. What I need is a patch and I need it soon. I cannot wait for DW to include the fix in a later service release.

DW - Please communicate.
