Hello, I don't know if you have noticed but when you choose spelling from the tool menu the whole publication hangs, no error message is given but all the buttons turn grey (inactive). I thought that will be the case only while the system is doing the spelling but in this case it was one page and only one very small (4 lines) textbox.
There is no way you can do anything else and the only way to get out of this problem is by closing the pub and comeback again.
Is this another bug????
I start getting a bit concerned ....
Thanks
German

Hi Herman,
Good point -- That's a bad one.
Shutting down Opus is the only way out.

I came across this so often in 281 that I gave up using the spell check.

My understanding is that the spell checker is supplied by a 3rd-party so there may not be much that can be done about it.

If I have lengthy slabs of text I copy them into a WP and check them there. A bit cumbersome, but not as long as I spent waiting for a no result from within Opus.

I cannot reproduce this. Could you forward an example publication and your system details to our support address and we will take a look. Many thanks.

Hi Duncan,
The OS here is XP SP2, it is impossible to avoid this problem if I hit the spell check with ANY pub.
Open a new pub -- I don't even need the textbox.
Hit F7 or go to tools >> click spell check -- And Opus is out of action as far as previewing, etc.
Many of it's menu tools are greyed out.

cheers
Paul

Thanks but a simple IMP is what I really need - I cannot run a Flash publication in the debugger! ;-)

Out of interest; what input locale and non-Unicode language are you using (Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Regional and Language Options - Regional Options and Advanced tabs)

Hi Duncan,
Regional Options -- English (New Zealand)
Languages -- Supplemental Language Support -- Install files for East Asian languages.
Advanced tab-- about 50 code page conversion tables are installed -- all east Asian.

Attached pub [Opus 4.21]has the problem -- -- at least in this part of the world Again, I do not need anything in the pub to get the problem.
If I hit F7 whether text is selected or not, all toolbar buttons are greyed out, and I cannot preview a pub or save it using the menu.
OS is XP SP2.
If the pub works ok in the USA or the UK I will reoganise my setup and see what happens.

cheers
Paul

Last post was me -- I keep forgetting to login
:D Removed Asian Language support from this PC -- problem is still here.
Can someone in the US running XP and Opus Pro 4.1 or later-- try the pub I posted, and tell me if Hitting F7 stops the pub from previewing, saving, etc?
cheers
Paul

I'm not in the US and I'm not running XP -- Win2K Pro SP4. I tried your downlod example and it worked fine.

I previewed OK, and ran both F7 and Tools > Check Spelling. Both worked. Tried Preview again with no problems.

Does this help narrow the problem?

Thank's for the info Sentosa --
Have installed Opus on a different XP computer and it is running OK.
Maybe the problem only occurs with some OS/PC setups.
I don't think I will worry about it --
I didn't need a spell checker 20 years ago -- I shouldn't need one now.

cheers
Paul
