Hi, I have created a 2 page tool that can be used to search a database of listings in an excel file.

Page 1 contains a simple search box with text boxes to display the resulting data

Page 2 has a docview of the spreadsheet, allowing users to scroll though the files in table form and edit them

however...when i switch between the two screens I get an error message from excel saying that the file is already in use. how can I prevent this from happening when swithcing between the 2 pages, incidentally this only happens with the finished publication.

thanks

Jon

Maybe in your Exel file you need to give it permission to share? (just guessing here)
Go to EXTRA / WORKSHEET SHARING and put a tab on the sharing button...hopes this helps ....btw I remembered in earlier times that Tony Coleman had a solution for this...don't know if he's still working at DW....

You can't have the database open for editing twice.

I can think of a couple of solutions:
- Close all your database queries before going to the second page. It should then be able to open it.
- Have two copies of the Excel file - one you open as the database and another for showing in the DocView.
- I think there is a way to tell Excel to open a file in view only mode - unfortunately I can't remember how to do it or whether you could access it via DocView - so poossibly not much help!

thanks for the replies,

How would I close the queries on the first page? before opening the second as that sounds the best solution

Update:

I have attempted to use the Close query action attached to the button that changes the page from page 1 to page 2 without success

I have also attempted to allow the xl sheet to be shared and neither seems to work
