I have a publication that reads data from a database and populates variables on pages in a number of ways.

When I publish to cd I have no issues -
(I have stated that the database will be located in the system pub dir)

However if i select publish to the web the publication works
but as i suspected no data is pulled from the database.

So what do I need to do to remedy the problem?

Pete

Pete,

When you run a web based publication it is running locally on the end
users machine and therefore can't write to the flat database file on the
server.

To make this work you need the publication to talk to the webserver using
post webdata. The posted webdata is then acted on by a server side
script php etc. The data is then passed via the script to a server side
database, an example would be MYSQL.

If you take a look at:

viewforum.php?f=13

You will see a selection of post webdata tutorials that should see you on
your way.

Brenden

This is like wading through treacle,
I followed the tutorial that you pointed me at - up to the bit where it says:

...All being well, please use a graphical front-end (such as MySQL Administrator or phpMyAdmin) or the command line to create a new MySQL database...

and then the wheels come off
I have downloaded and installed winamp server
and therefore I am successful up to this point

But.......

I do not know how to set up the MySQL database using MySQL Administrator - I downloaded this and installed also - when I open the programme it presents me with a list of connection dialogue boxes.
Complete gobbledy gook to me.....

As I have already done all the database creation in Access - what is this all about - and more importantly how do I proceed?

Any help would be very welcome

Pete
