Hi

Hope someone can help. I have published my publication and tested it on my computer and everythig works perfectly. However when I upload it to a remote server, for others to download, the .exe file stops working.

Downloading the .exe file works ok, but when you try and run it, the Windows XP send error report window appears. I have tried uploading and download on two different servers many times, with the same error. It seems as though somehow the file becomes corrupt between uploading and downloading. I have tried doing the same with .exe files created in other applications, and it don't get the same problem.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Hi kenkofi,
You have probably already considered this, but have you accidentally uploaded it as ascii instead of binary? -- this is one of the ways you can corrupt an exe file.

Hi Paul

Thanks for your response. I have tried Uploading using Opus 4 Pro and Ftp Surfer. I have double checked to make sure Upload/Download are Binary. I still get the same error when I run Install.

Error message:

Cannot extract DWuninst. exe Installation is corrupt. Can't seem to get beyond this.

Hi kenkofi,
Narrow it down -- I presume you are uploading a pub that has been through the distribution wizard.
Publish file as exe only and see if file works without being packed by the wizard.
cheers
Paul

Hi Paul

I have done exactly that, i've even used Astrum Install to package. It works perfectly even when packaged by the distribution wizard, until you upload and download.

Very strange.

Thanks for that

I have now tried two different ISP's Servers, a new install of Windows XP on a new hard drive, not compressing the .exe file, zipping it with winzip both compressed and uncompressed and I get the same error each time. Winzip says there is a CRC error.

I guess it's a bug in Opus somewhere.

Any thoughts Technical Support.

You're not using anything outlandish in the file name like spaces or special characters are you? I've had wierd problems downloading in suhc cases.

If the publication runs fine before it is uploaded to your webserver then the problem must lie with the upload-download process and not with Opus.

Have you tried using a different client to FTP your file to your servers?

Regards

You can compare the two versions of the file. Go to a command prompt and enter fc /b file1 file2, and it'll tell you if there are any differences (there shouldn't be any).

If you upload and download a zipped version, and winzip says "CRC error" then either Winzip is at fault (very unlikely) or something in the way you're uploading and downloading the files is corrupting the file. It can't be anything to do with Opus as Winzip just treats the file as data.

Maybe it's the size of the file that is the problem, which is why other .exe files worked okay.
