I am using Opus Pro 5.5. And no matter what I do to cannot get UPDATE CURRENT RECORD to change the record in the database file.

Here is what I have tried so far:

CONCERNING THE ACTUAL EXCEL FILE:

I tried enabling "share workbook"
I tried disabling "share workbook"

I tried selecting a print area
I tried selecting no print area

I tried saving the file as the following formats:
microsoft excel workbook *.xls
microsoft excel 3.0 worksheet *.xls
csv(comma delimited) *.csv
csv(ms-dos) *.csv

and I made sure that the read-only box in the file properties was unhecked

CONCERNING THE DATABASE QUERY (DSN section):

I tried using the Microsoft Excel Drive [*.xls]

I tried using the Microsoft Text Driver [*.txt, *.csv]

In the select workbook directory, I tried selecting different workbook versions (3.0 etc.) and I unchecked the read-only box.

CONCERNING THE DATABASE QUERY (QUERY ID section):

When I open click the SQL Wizard button and check the "Select Data for Updating/Deleting," clicking the NEXT button takes me to an option for Tables. But the choices for tables are all blank, and I can't go any further into the SQL Wizard because the "NEXT" button is greyed and nonresponsive.

When I uncheck the "Select Data for Updating/Deleting" I am allowed to continue and complete the SQL Wizard, but the Query Id that is created is not Updatable because the "Select Data for Updating/Deleting" was unchecked.

I am trying to use the UPDATE CURRENT RECORD action. What am I doing wrong?

Hi,

I have created a few databse applications and like you, I have never been able to get them to work with an Excell SS. Using the same Opus publication with an Access DB works fine, which would suggest to me that Opus just doesn't work with Excel. It can connect to and read records in the SS but not update them

If you have Access, I would convert your SS to a flat file DB and use that. Alternatively, if you don't, find soemone who does and ask them to create the DB for you and then use Opus to populate it with your data.

If I can recollect, I went through the same assumed problem. But find below copy of Brenden's answer then. ( check on FAQ list for OPUS XE )

Q: I have created a publication that uses a Database; I am able to
view the records but am unable to delete records. When I check the box
to edit or amend, no table is shown in the SQL wizard.

A:
To allow Opus to delete a record from your database your
database must have a Primary Key. In Access open your table in Design
View and either add a new Auto Number field or right click on an existing
files and select Primary Key from the presented option.
