I have created a web based database application which keeps track of our staff's in-service training needs and records their progress. It connects to a MySQL DB, is stored on webspace and it all works fine and dandy. However, we run a Joomla portal and using the application within the wrapper feature of Joomla (basically, the wrapper shows a web page within a frame inside the existing website) causes the browser to crash (both IE and FF). This does not happen with any other website put into the wrapper. There is nothing wrong with the Opus pub. as it works absolutely perfectly in its own window.

Is there anyone out there who has experience of Opus and this particular feature in Joomla and might be able to shed some light? Alternatively, is it something to do with the Opus plug-in?

Whilst we are able to run with the pub opening up a second browser window it's not as neat nor does if fully comply with our accessibility guidelines.

Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

I am still having this issue. Web based applications cause the browser to crash. Any advice DW?

Hi David,

I've wrapped Opus web publication before and had no problems in either FF or IE.

What version of Joomla are you using and is the page on an interanet?

Thanks for the reply Mack

Using version 1.0.12

However, the problem isn't just related to using it within Joomla. I have found that any web pub that I create can cause the browser to crash. I have opened the pub on a number of PCs and it still causes a crash (IE7). The problem occurs when I try to close the tab which contains the Opus web pub. If I don't close it then everything is fine.

Hi David,

Can you use other peoples Plexus files without crashing. If you've not got any, browse to my site and select one from the iZones menu.

Is it possilbe to point me to one of the pages that crashs for you and I can have a look.

Mack

Thanks Mack - I will see what happens with pages from your site. Unfortunately, crashes tend to be a bit random and there is no one point where it consitently causes a crash. I can get my own site to cause IE to crash or freeze - if you have time you could perhaps give it a go.

Thanks

Hi folks,

I am still experiencing intermittent IE crashes (not with yours Mack - up till now!)

I have created a number online Opus publications and I just want to try eliminate a few things in the hope that I can get to the bottom of it.

I would be grateful if you could you try these out at

http://www.ictstuff.info/opus/Early%20Numeracy.htm

and get back to me if they cause IE to crash. I am using IE7.

Thanks

Hi David,
They work ok for me using IE6 and Firefox 2.0.0.7.
I've experimented with several Opus web pubs operating through a Joomla wrapper and had no problems so far.

cheers
Paul

Thanks Paul - eventually I intend to put them in a Joomla wrapper but need to solve the problem first

Hi David,

Have tested them in both IE7 and FF2 under Windows XP SP2 and both work fine.

The adding one activity appeared to take longer to load than the rest and kept telling me to count / add chimps but displayed other animals :-?

Also I think you've published with the mouse / keyboard option enabled. Never really got this function and I always leave it unselected.

I'll leave the program running whilst working and see if it dies.

Mack

Thanks Mack - will have a look at the cheeky monkeys to see who's causing the problems.

Hi David,

Well am managing to get the publication to crash now - it seems to occur when left for a long period of time - and I think might be specific to hibination. What seems pretty certain is that it doesn't require user interaction to cause this.

I'll keep it running in the background and try to be sure - it's a little trick to do this long term things as the computer is always in use and could simply be something I've open or done - but this might point you in the right direction.

Thanks for the replies.

Sadly, I have yet to get to the bottom of it. I have found the crashes to be rather random. However, I can get it to crash fairly consistently by doing the following:

1. Open the Opus pub in a tab (IE 7)
2. Use it
3. Either try to close the tab or open a new one and the pub will crash or navigate from another tab.

I have tried reinstalling Opus and installing it on different machines. I removed and downloaded the latest version of the plug-in. I have re-published the files. I have uploaded the pubs to different servers. I have also created the simplest of publications and got that to crash as well. I am at a bit of a loss to be honest.

I get this message fairly often (although not all the time!) clicking on OK will close IE.

I am a wee bit disappointed with this as I had hoped to make the pubs available to our schools and not have to resort to a download or worse still distribution through CD-ROM. I am also a bit disappointed with the silence from DW.

have you followed up the sysfader error you get on the web??
It seems to be a common problem with many 'causes'

could be a trojan?? a bug in IE Explorer, the display settings---lots of causes

one I found:-

Quote:
e: What the hell is Sysfader.exe ?
I HAVE FIXED THE PROBLEM!!!!

Start, Right click My Computer, Properties, Advanced Tab, Click the settings button under performance, Choose Adjust for best performance. Job Done!
I have been working on it all night, it was that simple. If this worked for you, please tell me throu email.*****@hotmail.com

or
Quote:
One other thing to try would be to go into the control panel, and
click on
display->appearance. Then click the 'effects' button. Uncheck the
box that reads 'use the following 'transition effect for menus and
tooltips.'

This will turn off the fading program that is the likely cause of your
grief. Let me know if this does the trick.
