At the suggestion of my LMS vendor, I downloaded the Opus evaluation for the express purpose of considering it for SCORM development. From the start-up wizard, I selected in turn each of the SCORM publication options and received each time the error:

"Publication 'C:\Program Files\Opus ProXE 5\SCORM Templates\SCORM.imp' could not be loaded"

I have searched the forums and the support site, downloaded the SR2 patch and updated help files without making any progress.

Please advise regarding the following:

1. Are the required templates available, and if so how do I obtain them?

2. Is this application usable for creating SCORM 1.2 compliant content without requiring a high degree of technical expertise?

I will also post this inquiry in your forum.

Thank you,

Hello,

Could you let me know which LMS vendor recomends Opus please.
I've been unsuccessful in my attempts to get Scorm content to talk to any LMS.

Thanks

Hi David,

Attached is the SCORM template from my Opus directory. I have zipped it with all the resources. Try it to see if it will open I just checked it from Opus 5.5 and it opened with no problems.

I never use SCORM, so I can't answer Q2

Hi mitchedh,

I have not been on these forums very long, but it would appear to me that Opus may not be the best choice for and easy, out of the box SCORM compliant authoring package. I have in some degree tried to make it work (though not with all publication options, admittedly), and at best only achieved a partial success (Opus sending information to the database, but not able to recieve it).

I would think that if it were to work it would have to take advantage of the Plexus plug in for true 2 way communication, but at this time i feel that Opus SCORM compliancy is any thing but easy and user friendly.

Hi Tom, actually getting Opus to talk to an LMS was something we were able to achieve using only the Opus Flex for SCORM output type. We just couldnt get the Opus file to "hear" the variables sent back, i posted on this a couple weeks ago.

Unfortunately you are right. I have tried a lot of things with Opus SCORM but did not get it to work with my customers's LMS.

IMHO SCORM compliance should be deleted from the Opus features list as long as somebody can show how to make it work.

My thanks to all who responded. I have not heard from support, but your input and the very fact that SCORM support appears dependent on the user community I think it unlikely that this solution will be viable for the Department.
