I am trying to create a switch activated CD player where someone presses the switch (keyboard emulation) gets played a length of music and then has to press the switch for more music. One difficulty I have is that I cannot discover either the length of the track or that the track has finished within the script in order to either move automatically on to the next track or replay the track. Any suggestions? (would want to be able to do similar things with sounds)

This might not be directly on point, but it might give you some ideas.

Can I make a plea for some help with this.
A switch activated cd player would be a great resource for using with our pupils.
The pupils in school are using switches to control different aspects of their environments, since they have major physical diificulties associated with cerebral palsy.

We can connect a switch to control a tape recorder usng a timing control box which basicaly turns the mains on and off on a timer or in response to a switch press.
CD players however, when you interrupt the mains reset themselves so you cannot use this method to play timed chunks of a cd.

We are using Opus to create most of their switch accessible multimedia since relevant computer software is rather sparse -especially for teenagers (I previously used Powerpoint which is quite limiting).

A fully switch accessible cd player does seem very possible in Opus, only the last part is defeating us (me a long time ago, Chris is still working on it)

You could set up a publication with CD track numbers on it. If you want the publication to remember what track was played last, you could store the track number into a temp file. Have a look at the attached IMP. Perhaps you could modify things to play a specified range/number of tracks. Hopefully someone can expand on this to help.
