Normally I installed the database in the same folder as the publication, Program Files.

With Windows Vista I don't think this is good if the end user is using a guest account or not logged in a admin. Anyway find a good solution for this?

You are correct -- Program Files can give you problems in Vista.
Put the files into C:/ProgramData for all users, or the AppData folder on the user's account for one user.
Files will not be virtualized in these folders.

Thanks Paul.

That sounds like a much better location. Will change this so end user doesn't have problems.

Can DW add this as a system variable so that we can select it and that Windows know what to do. Similar to your My Documents variable.

Does Opus use the Microsoft KnownFolders API and ShGetFolder?

Good suggestion.
Your idea --- May be best if you repeat your request over in the Wishlist, in case that's "more read" by the DW devlpr team.

Please add (or I'll add later) something about DW providing an "App-note" or some guidelines on use of this... and especially for DW to highlight any issues or cautions around using OpusPro's update feature (will it handle those paths... another issue: what if a User wants to migrate from one machine to another AND take the 'updated database' with him... etc.)

I'm glad you brought up this point on DBs. I was wondering about having a single DB and then different Users of Pub adding their data (but then wouldn't other people be able to 'access' that outside of Opus). Then I thought of a master DB plus satellite 'user DBs'... and that seemed too messy. Still thinking. (BTW, I'm not trying to answer this here. Just noting my thinking)

Add a password to the database that is embedded into the Opus publication so end-user does not know it. You can then use the database and restrict access to users through Opus.

Any progress DW on creating a System Variable in Opus for the ProgramData folder in Vista?
