I'm about to develop a publication where the user can pan around a scene and interact with hotspots in the scene.
Previously, I've achieved this type of thing by adding a very wide image object and moving it left or right by clicking on the pan buttons until it gets to the end of the image. However, I've found that the movement can be a little unsmooth at times. I use actions to move the scene, not scripting.
Now I've upgraded to Opus Pro V6.4, I'm wondering if I should use the Quicktime VR option instead. The sample Quicktime VR publication moves nice and smoothly (if a bit rapid!) for the 'interaction through scripting' option.
I may also need to add other objects such as images or animations over the top of the scene. I seem to remember reading somewhere that nothing can be placed over the top of a quicktime VR movie, however (and this seems to be the case if I try to add an image on top in the sample).
I think I could get the VR 360deg panning effect in Opus if I had 2 images which swap positions as they fall off the end of the viewable screen.
I am also wondering if I can get smoother panning if I use scripting rather than actions when moving the image across the screen.
In this case, I can't really see the advantage of the Quicktime VR, except for possible smoother panning, or am I missing something?
