I like to make a flash application and i will give the user the choice to change the background image.
I did the folowing:
as background i took an imagefile and gave as filename <BG>
Then i made a button with the option to browse a graphics file and store it in <BG>

It works OK in the edit mode, but after publishing as a SWF file it won't work.
There must be a way to do it, but how?....

Kind regards,

Ad

Have you set the Pub's TYPE to 'Flex', or are you developing/editing as Full OpusPro pub and then only making Flex/SWF at the publishing step?

My understanding is this: if I 'declare' a Pub to be Flex type up-front (either by checkbox in the new pub Wizard, or by setting the TYPE in Publication Properties), then during the development process then I will only be exposed to the objects and actions/commands that are supported for Flex.

The advantage is Opus only gives me the Flex 'subset' to work with... if I can call it that.

On the other hand, if I want to produce a Pub for different purposes or in multiple formats... it is okay to start in Full OpusPro TYPE. However, I need to be skilled at knowing what will work and not-work in the different output types (e.g., publish for DVD and publish for Flex or some other ).
So, at time of publishing, Opus might succeed in generating a good Flex pub... or it might generate the pub and then you'll find later what does not work or that the pub hangs or crashes. My guess is that's what happens. :?

The help files cover what is "not supported in Flex".

Hope that helps.

No, I'm pretty sure it's not the case. The idea is that you should select the type and have access to the actions & triggers for that subset but Opus does not limited all the features that are not available to that subset.

On top of this, I pretty sure that Opus preview will use all features in a publication regardless of the subset selected making publications appear to work until published.

This topic has been raised somewhere else and there might be more details. If I recall correctly, there is a section in the help that details more about this and includes more about what works and what doesn't.

Three rules of thumb when working with other publication types are:

1. Keep it simple and use actions.
2. Publish not preview
3. Learn to think outside the box (well more than usual)

Yes, this is (unfortunately) true. Don't trust the preview! You have to export your publication to Flex (which is Flash) everytime to test if it works or not.
