Is it better or more efficient to make a program with scripting instead of using the standard options, or is there no difference in functions like show, hide and other actions.

Kind regards,

The reason I started using Illuminatus years ago was I could quickly build interactive, multimedia presentations without having to write any scripts. Director was popular then, but to do anything slightly complex you had to be able to program in what they called "Lingo." I stopped using Director for that reason.

OPUS has taken building what it calls "Publications" to a level much higher than PowerPoint (and other competing software products), without any scripts. If you understand OPUS, you will know you can build very sophisticated marketing presentations and computer based training -- without knowing how to write scripts. This is HUGE if you are not a computer programmer. Even programmers who correctly learn OPUS will build most of any project using Objects, Triggers, and Actions not scripts. Why would you write a script if you don't have to?

There are some situations which require OPUS Scripts. Some of the scripts we've created are VERY complex, but we never use scripts unless we have to. I doubt there's any significant resource advantage to writing in script.

How well do you know OPUS? Your question makes me think you are just getting started, and you haven't used OPUS to build anything yet. I think once you start building a project using what you refer to as "standard functions" you'll quickly agree it is extremely fast and easy. If you are a computer programmer -- maybe you feel more comfortable writing code (scripts). OPUS will work either way.

Hi Fred,

I am a big fan of OPUS, and a lot of programs with opus but i was just wondering if the one is more usefull then the other
but in your words i read that there is no difference. I also make menu structures in DVD studio pro and in that program there is a
difference in pre produced objects and scripting so if scripting is a better way to make a publication, then i have to learn more
about the script language.

Are you saying that to correctly learn to use Opus you should program? I'd agree with that. ;-) But then that implies that build[ing] most of any projects with Objects, Triggers and Actions is the incorrect method which would then answer your next question of why you write a script if you don't have to - simply because it the correct way to use Opus...? LOL

On a different topic, I noticed you are using a MacBook. I am so fed up with Microsoft's OS that I am seriously thinking about getting a Mac as my next computer. I know they are great for video editing (Final Cut Pro) which is what I'm doing more of then OPUS lately. Can you please tell me what your experience has been running programs like OPUS on a Mac? Do your finished Pubs run OK on Windows computers? What limitations do you have? Does OPUS work the same? What model and tech specs are you using?
