Hi there,

Having a problem with a quick time VR not displaying on a published project when played back on a Windows XP system.
However, if I first run the file independently in quick time player - it displays and plays ok in the published project???

Could this be a QuickTime 7 issue?

Gonna try uninstall and replace with Quicktime 6 (if I can find it!!)

Any advice would be appreciated

Regards

Pete

Thanks Mack,

I actually had already found a copy of QT6.

I rolled back from 7 to 6 but the problem remained.

So - I deleted the file from the page - saved, closed down, restarted OPUS - reinserted the QT file and it works now.

I then installed QTv7 again (over the top of v6) and the QT file still plays ok

So - possibly just a bug?

Pete

Hi Pete,

Glad you found a copy. As for the problem, could be a bug, but whether it's with Opus or QT whose to say. I'd assume that the QT in Opus uses an ActiveX which may work differently to running in the QT player and maybe something hadn't registered correctly - but that's a shot in the dark.

I use VRs and Apple Video formats in Opus, but have always used a QT alternative which haven't had problems under XP or W7.

Ironically, it's called Quicktime Alternative.

http://www.free-codecs.com/download/qui ... native.htm

I think it's the same program but with all the c@@p removed that Apple seems want installed. If I'm building a major project, then I always run the full version on a clean XP machine as one of my tests, but have never had any problems with it.

Hi again,
Still having a problem with quicktime vr.

The vr is placed on a page and loads and functions ok (most of the time) but occasionally when I navigate to that page it crashes the pub and just displays a blank (white) screen.

Really need to get this sorted if anyone has any ideas?

Thanks

Pete

Reminds me of a Beatles' song: "...when I get older losing my hair" -- you will still need me, but will you still feed me -- "...when I'm 64?".

I dont understand?

1. The Beatles reference? - Must be losing my mind as well as my hair???
2. THE QTVR works most of the time - but occasionally crashes with a white screen?
I have tried older versions and also Mac's alternative - with the same result?
Have apple really killed QTVR?

I am wondering if I need to create a page that only has the VR on it (no timelines, or objects that have actions or transitions) and see if that fixes it.

But would welcome other suggestions

Pete

Reading thru the discussion on the Link I gave:

Hence the reference to "64".

Symptoms similar to yours.

I'm starting to feel that way too...

If I get a chance, I'll try and dig out the last VR based publication. It was a simple VR object - skeleton quiz, that asked questions and required students to click on hot spots. I had thought it wasn't that long ago, but thinking about it, it might have been the start of the year, so I'm starting to wonder what is was running on. I know the QT Alternative works with movies - a I ran various test during the summer but having just tried VR with both Opus 7 / 6 and QT 7 / 6 none will play.

As for the whole x64 and QT playing VRs - they still work in QT and ActiveX browser plug-in but not Opus? Maybe this is an x64 issue. Also the major software companies such as EasyPano, 2010 software is still geared to produce QTVRs - so they must be alive and kicking.

Regards,

Mack

Apple dropped QTVR support in OSX Snow Leopard, and omitted it from the iPhone and iPad.

On my Intel Mac running Snow Leopard, the default QuickTime X player doesn't run QTVR's; if I try to open a QTVR file, I get an alert telling me to install Quicktime 7.

Apple is deprecating QTVR in favour of HTML5/CSS3/JS technologies...

cheers
Paul

I downgraded the host machine to QT 6 - same intermittent problem that I got in QT 7
Works sometimes and then crashed - white screen

Also tried Mack's suggestion of alternative quicktime
Same problem

So - is it a combo of Opus 7 and Quicktime?

Havent had time to create a static page with just the QTVR and text on it, today - but will post the results tomorrow

Looks like this could become a bit of an issue?

Pete

Hi Pete,

I tried Opus 7 with both the QT 6&7 alternative versions and both did the same thing. But all our W7 setups are X64 and I think we need to check this under x86.

Personally, I'd use W7 rather than Vista simply because of the issues presented in this forum regarding access to certain Opus objects under Vista. The other thing that struck me yesterday when I did a quick check was that certain VRs displayed in the load box and other didn't - suggesting that the actual creation of the file might also play a part - I see this with SWF files.

Regards,

Mack

A computer that plays QuickTimeVR?

I'm a PC and Windows 7 was my idea!
