Has anyone else had problems with your variables working fine in XP, but the same program's variables would not work in windows 7? I have a miscellaneous page in a program, I created several years ago, where you can click to turn on sound effects or turn them off. I’ve gone into the registry on my work computer which is windows 7 and I can clearly see that when the variable was supposed to be written to the registry, it did not. I can make that change manually in the registry and the program reads the change and works accordingly. I’m looking for a fix, perhaps something in the form of a Script I guess. If anyone knows a way to make variables compatible with both XP and Windows 7 please let me know. I'm sure hoping this is not a security thing in windows preventing a program from writting to the registry.

I am using an XP computer running Opus Pro 7.01

Thanks...

Hi Denn,

Long time no see. How's the deep south keeping you?

It may well be a Windows' security issue. W7 has User Account Control that prevents non-admins from writing to protected registry branches but what doesn't make sense is that it shouldn't stop the read / write from occurring as Windows will use a virtualised branch to store the data - it just won't be where you'd expect to find it.

What's the path of the branch where you're storing the data - or better still can you link / upload the problematic file.

Regards,

Mack

Mack,

It's good to hear from you again. Sorry I haven't been back here in a few days, but I wanted to wait until I had enough time to DOUBLE CHECK, and... I did find some mistakes by doing so.

The "database / address book" that I have created is quite complex. I found that I had some variables listed as (current user only) and others as (all users). I corrected the current user only to all users and the problem was solved.

I have no idea why windows 7 doesn't like "current user only", but it does like (all users).

After reading your reply, I was actually trying to check it out and be ready for any questions you might have. See... you're a good influence even without solving the problem. You make people look a little deeper.

Once again I credit you for a problem solved.
