I am trying to figure out how to get an alpha channel working in Opus. I searched but could not find how to do exactly what I am trying to do. By profession one of my jobs is creating videos (commercials, specials, etc.) One of the tools available to me is "Snow", it has a black background. In video I used all the choices available including chroma key to make the black background transparent. I was going to create a screen saver with snow falling on top of the background picture, but I can't get the background of the video of snow falling to be transparent. Has anyone been able to accomplish to accomplish a transparent background in a video?

Thanks
Denn...

Hi Denn,

Not sure Opus will work with the alpha channel, but if you render with a fixed colour, you can selected the Rendered option and then specify the transparency colour. Hit the help on the video screen for more info.

Mack, once again I thank you, but I just can't get it to work. Well let me reiterate, what you told me to do worked, but I can’t get the background quite right. There is a fine tune ability missing that I have in video editing. I can get most of the background transparent, but not all, at least not completely. Since Christmas is gone now, I’ll try to remember this before next Christmas and try again.

Thanks again Mack. You have done much to help this product by helping the people who buy it... It would seem you've helped me alone 30 or 40 times over the years.

Cheers Denn,

I'm afraid fixing the matting for the transparency is probably beyond my magic ;-) I would imagine that it'll depend on the colours of the objects to be kept versus the 'green' screen used. Same as transparent gifs really.

Good luck with the problem.

Hi Denn,

I make scoreboards using Opus and the way i solved the problem is to make the background 100% green.
Most modern video mixers can overlay the computer graphics using Chromakey.
Chromakey can be bleu or green. When using the graphic over video and turn on the chromakey
on the mixer it looks great.
