Until a few weeks ago, flash (.swf) files played fine in Opus Pro 7.06 in Windows 8. Now they won't. Even to try to place a flash video file on a page causes Opus to crash. Any flash file previously placed on a page causes a crash as soon as you try to preview it, or edit its properties in any way.

The only circumstances which have changed in the interim are a) installation of iTunes b) installation of Windows 8.1 (upgrade from 8.0).

Uninstalling iTunes makes no difference; and upgrading to Windows 8.1 lost all restore points, so the only way to get back to 8.0 is to format the hard drive and do a fresh Windows 8.0 install!

I'd rather not convert the .swf files since this always seems to result in reduced quality and also the transparent backgrounds disappear.

Anyone any ideas?

Hi Tony,

I can confirm that SWF doesn't work under 8.1. It doesn't crash Opus 9, but they won't play and they stop Opus working correctly - EG I couldn't preview a page. Additionally, published executables with an SWF that work under other Window's versions, just open and close under 8.1.

W8.1 has added even more security and as MS are now managing Flash Player for IE - it could be any number of things from a security settings, to broken code to a now defunct feature.

I'd be inclined to send support an email.

Have you tried installing a new/updated Flash Player?

about an update that put an end to a lot of bugs, and also those that were causing the Flash Player to not work in Windows 8.1.

The flash update now comes through the Window's update system for W8. Even with the latest updates, it still doesn't work.
