When i make an HTML5 site with mp3 files, opus also creates .ogg files by publishing.
I tried to delete them and the music still played.
What is the purpose of an .ogg file

OGG is an open, free audio format that is supposed to provide an alternative to using patented technology such as MP3. However, with the exception of the USA, the patent has now expired and MP3 has excellent cross-browser support unlike OGG which I believe is not supported in IE or Safari. It's all a little messy, so I might not be completely right.

Technically, I believe OGG is superior in some aspects such as low bit-rate encoding and multi-channel support - but without support for all major browsers - it's probably dead in the water as a HTML5 format.
