Hello,

I hope someone with advanced knowledge of Opus Pro will read this. I am currently hoping to develop a image heavy database of botanical plants would like to develop a software application that allows the user tosort images and their associated data according to specific parameters. It must be user-friendly and not require programming skills. The closest technology that I have found that would fulfill my requirements is the Pivotviewer control which was incorporated into the Silverlight platform and its associated add-in for Microsoft Excel.

I understand that Microsoft neglected to update the Pivotviewer add-in for later versions of Excel and Silverlight is now considered to be anobsolete technology. I have been told it is now superseded by HTML5 for a lot of purposes.

I wondered whether it would be possible to use the Opus Pro to create Pivotviewer Collections and run them in Opus Pro "publications" using the HTML5 Pivotviewer control. I understand that it's possible to attach external scripts to Opus Pro publications and to make JQuery functions perform operations on Opus code (OpusScript).

An Australian company has developed a variation of the Pivotviewer control written as a Jquery plugin, so I wondered whether I could use Opus Pro to create the PivotViewer collections for my database application?

cheers.

That's a misunderstanding. Anything published from Opus to HTML5 is not OpuScript - it is all JavaScript just as jQuery is JavaScript. It's both the same language and if you have the technical expertise to understand how the JavaScript in both the Opus project and jQuery PivotViewer work then anything that is possible with HTML + JavaScript + CSS is possible.

Are you referring to you building the project not needing programming?

hello Mack,

Thanks for responding. Sorry I misunderstood the answer you gave in the earlier comment thread. I don't currently have the expertise to know how JQuery and Opus Script relate to each other. I didn't realize OpusScript was derived from Javascript.

I come from a background in education and horticulture and had been looking for a user friendly tool like Opus Creator for some time. I had hoped to use it for this particular task to create a simple to use WYSIWYG Pivot View Collection creator, similar to how Microsoft developed the add in for Excel to create Pivotviewer Collections and Sysgain developed the Collection Designer, neither of which are available any longer..

No apologies necessary. Opus is both an excellent tool for designers like yourself and developers like me.

But unless, the PivotViewer is self contained and can simply be displayed using Opus HTML5 object, then some degree of programming is going to be necessary. We [interaktiv.co.uk] are slowly adding some support videos that might be of use to you should you wish to continue down this path, but as these are at the more complex end of the learning curve, most of the topics are still in the pipeline. In fact, the basics of linking external scripts is the latest and might give you an indication of what might be necessary or possible.
