I am updating an HTML5 publication to run in Safari on an Ipad.

On each page I run a timeline adding various narrated audio files within the timeline. I have tried them running on "auto" channels and specific channels but still the timeline does not run properly. The output mode is selected as a "single page application", could this be something to do with the problem?

As I have said everything works OK in Chrome and IE so it's something to do with publishing for Safari.

Any help appreciated.

You didn't actually answer the question :-). Do the sounds not play or does nothing actually work with the timelines?

Everything works OK in the timelines but the sounds. They don't play at all.

Okay, in which case that does sound like the point raised in the original post. It's not a bug, it's the way mobile devices, at least on Apple are designed.

You need user intervention to trigger media. You can test this and if necessary use the findings to build a solution.

Firstly check that adding the audio to a button that the user presses will play.

Secondly, if the above works, check whether having triggered the above audio, it can then be played using a timeline.

The idea being that if user intervention has already triggered file, then the automatic playback using the timeline should now work.

Ran a check and it's not quite that simple - at least on Android. I think the idea above will create two audio instances, so the timeline one still won't play because only the manual click one has loaded.

However, if you use JavaScript to create a new Audio, assign it to a variable and load this - then you can access a single instance and control it from the timeline once the manual event has been triggered.

//JAVASCRIPT on MANUAL EVENT FIRST - IE Button click
Code:
myMusic = new Audio('stranger.mp3');
myMusic.load();

//JAVASCRIPT ON TIMELINE TRIGGERED AFTER MANUAL EVENT ABOVE
Code:
myMusic.play() //note small 'p'

Here's a live example if anybody want to check on their mobile devices - works on our Moto Gs and Kindle Fires.

Are you saying Mack that every page would have to have 2 buttons to run any one timeline manually? One to load the sound and one to run the timeline. That wouldn't be practical in a training course. The previous page would have a "Next" button on it but I guess you couldn't use that to start it on the next page.

No. It's just the bases for building something that fits your project.

You need to look at the design of your project and see when and how many audio files to load at a time.
