Is it possible to set the direction of a gradient fill on an object by script?

I'm thinking for example of a circle with a radial fill that makes it look like a ball with a highlight... as the ball moves it wouldbe nice to have the highlight move in relation to a fake lightsource.

Is this possible or am I clutching at straws?!
