PostPosted: November 8th, 2004, 5:27 pm
Hi everybody,

is ist possible to decrease the delay between rightclicking on an object in opus pro and the opening of the rightclick menu?

I did not found a possibility to make settings on the delay.

Thanks in advance

Frank :D

Hi Frank,

If I understand you correctly, the speed delay of the right-click is set by Windows, and can be adjusted in the mouse settings in the Windows Control Panel.

You can use Opus shortcut keys to access an objects actions or properties...

CTRL-R for properties.

CTRL-E for actions.

Further to Steve's response, slow context menu display could also signify heavy page file usage (possibly caused by lack of available RAM) or slow hard drive access (usually caused by disk fragmentation). You can test these possibilities using the following steps:

- Launch Opus and load in your publication
- Right-click on the Windows taskbar (the bar which runs along the bottom of the screen and shows all running programs)
- Select 'Task Manager' from the menu which appears
- Open the Options menu and ensure that the 'Always on Top' setting is ticked
- Now select the 'Performance' tab
- In the 'Physical Memory (K)' section, make a note of the 'Available' memory

Is this value particularly low? If there is less than 50000K available with only one application running, it would suggest that there are too many processes running in the background or that you need to upgrade your RAM.

- Now right-click on the page in Opus whilst keeping an eye of this 'Available' value

Does this cause the Available RAM to deplete significantly?

I would also recommend performing a Disk Cleanup and Defragmentation using the following steps:

- Click Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Cleanup
- Windows will now check to see how many temporary files are present on the hard disk (this process may take several minutes)
- Once this process is complete, a list of temporary file types should appear
- Place a tick in all of the checkboxes shown, then click OK to clean the system
- When complete, please click Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Defragmenter
- Click the Defragment button to start defragmentation
- This process may take a couple of minutes or several hours depending on the size of the hard disk and level of fragmentation
- When complete, please restart the computer
- Now launch Opus, load in a publication and check to see if the right-click content menu is quicker to appear

I hope this helps. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any further queries.

Kind regards,
