Hi !

I'm having problems choosing the best image format to display in Opus. When using a WMF image which should offer no change in quality when you rescale it, I encounter that the image (which is very large in its original version) becomes very torn out and rough when I downscale it and use it in Opus.

I transferred it to Corel Draw and exported it as a PNG in the appropriate size and it displays with a much smoother outline than the WMF.

My (general) question : Which vector format works best with Opus ? Or is it better to change the image to a bitmap like PNG or GIF ? I'd be grateful for any tips from the board . :D

Regards

Hi,

Thank you for your enquiry.

Please ensure that you are importing the WMF file using the Draw > Import Vector command (which will retain the vector information) as opposed to using an Image object (which will try to convert the WMF to a bitmap). You should now find that the vector imports without distortion or pixellation and that you are able to edit the vector without problems.

I hope this helps. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any further queries.

Kind regards,

Thanks for your info, Robin ! Works great

One last question : Does the Draw -> Import Vector command have any impact on the image file size ( and on the size of the publication )?

Hi,

Thank you for your enquiry.

Importing the WMF file using the Import Vector command has no effect on the original file size of the image.

The size of the publication .imp file will only increase by the size of the image file. For example, importing a 50KB WMF file into a blank 10KB .imp file results in an .imp file of around 60KB.

There is also only a negligible increase in the size of the size of the published executable. In my tests, a blank publication published to a size of 1.56MB, whereas the same publication with a 50KB vector image imported resulted in a 1.58MB executable.

I hope this helps. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any further queries.

Kind regards,
