Hi

I developed a pub in v6 using an XP machine and now have a Vista machine. Testing in runtime on the new computer, I've noticed that the cursor has changed spontaneously to sideways, double-sided arrows instead of the normal arrow cursor. When I've had this occur at other times in the past on the XP machine, the cursor was hanging up. Still works, but doesn't look right: tells the user that something's amiss.

Drivers are up to date.

Any ideas or help would be appreciated.

Kind Regards,

Stephen

I get this with XP. I think it started with Opus V6, however--I have noticed it happen occasionally with other software, but Opus may be running in the background. It only lasts 30 second or so and if I move the cursor off page, then back on a couple of time it seems to clear it, but it may just be co-incidence.
I think there were some discussions on the forum concerning this already.

Hi Sandy

Yes, Opus is running in the background, since this occured in preview mode. Since the best test would be to run the .exe in Vista, I checked if it happens in runtime.

And, in runtime, it doesn't seem to occur.

I'll also search it on the Forum.

Thanks for your ideas.

Kind Regards,

I was getting annoyed with this, and 'concerned'. At some point in using the Pub (in Preview), the cursor changes to the I-beam and stays that way. Could be either vertical or horizontal cursor.

Good news for anyone joining this thread... my experience is ALSO that the problem shows up during Preview, but not when fully Published. ( am using WinXP SP2 ).

In case DW wants to duplicate the problem... create a Pub that opens another Chapter in its own window. (resizable in my case). Preview. Once that Chap's open, moving the arrow cursor over it will change permanently when mouse exits that view. If I exit to the right, I get horizontal cursor. If I exit to to top, I get vertical I-beam cursor. Could it be something with DirectX?

Hi

Come to think of it, that's how my pub causes the problematic cursor's appearance: opening a chapter in its own window.

I hope that the new Vista+ service release that Evolution subscribers now have, and we will all eventually have access to, fixes this.

Kind Regards,

I have also found this to be the case particulalrly if you are using re-sizable windows/ opening chapters in its own window.

This works for me most of the time:

Go to the publication's properties page and change the default cursor here.

I like C:\WINDOWS\Cursors\3dgarro.cur (which should be on all machines)

Hi David

Thanks for your suggestion. I tried 3Dgarro. Very nice design. The pub, in preview, had some difficulty keeping the new cursor when, for example, I minimized the screen or navigated to another page.

As Lar_123 points out, this doesn't occur in runtime, just in preview. So, I think I will leave it, for now.

However, 3Dgarro is a very nice "find." Thank you. :)

Kind Regards,
