Hi i am new here and i have a question about the slideshow function.
To make a slideshow is very easy, but is it possible to make a slideshow where the viewer can insert it's own photos instead of pre inserted photos.
Can the final slideshow be exported as a flashmovie or something.

Marian

Hi Marian,

Welcome to the forum! It will be helpful for future questions if you can add what version of Opus you are using, as well as your hardware configuration and OS, to your signature.

The answer to your first question about the user inserting their own photos is a qualified "yes." I've attached a sample .imp file in which a variable is used to identify a folder in which a user could add photos that they would like to show in their slideshow.

Unfortuantely, in reply to your second question, Opus Pro v6, which I am familiar with, would not be able to export the slideshow as a movie. The only option would be to add a print capability that the user could optionally employ (I've added this print button to the sample .imp file).

Hope this helps.

Kind Regards,

Thanks very much for your example.
But as you know i am new with opus (saw it by a friend and it's super !!)
how can i give the user the optin to choose a map.

What i did is:
i made a var called LOAD and put that in the place where you put the adress MyPhotos. Then i made a button with a directory browse option and store that result in the LOAD variable but no photo shows up.

<LOAD>\*.*

What am i doing wrong?

Kind regards,
Marian

Hi Marian,

I'd have to say that I'm not sure that this functionality works. That is that the UpdateFiles() command required to refresh the list of slides doesn't seem to.

There are a few possible workarounds to this depending on what you are creating the slide show for:

1. The use of a variable does work - but you need to to have defined the path on page show - therefore:

a. create a publication variable.
b. Add your slide show with the variable name to your the page.
c. Create button with a browse directory action and store the variable.
d. Add a "go to current page" action.

This will of course reset the page, but because the path you choose is stored in a publication variable - it will be used on page show to set the slide show.

2. If your publication cannot use a page reset from above, then you have two more options.

a. Find and use a DLL that can read the files in a directory and build a slide show from looping frames.

b. Use the "command line" to list the files in a directory to a text file and read these in and then build a slide show from looping frames.

There are various posts on the forum about the above two ideas but if this is for a simple publication - like a family album then #1 above is probably more suited.

Mack

Hi Marian,

I tried using the search directory with the <LOAD>\*.* variable plus "wildcard" and was equally surprised to see that it did not work. Not sure why, but Mack has some suggestions and possible fixes.

I tried some of these and came up with a revised .imp (see attached) that selects the directory's path to the "LOAD" variable, then refreshes/resets the page ("Go to current page"). This seems to allow the slide show to work OK.

Kind Regards,
