Post subject: opus and flex...swf files
PostPosted: January 21st, 2005, 1:01 am
I am so disappointed with the problems I've had with OPUS 04 and FLEX ( swf files) and the many hours I've spent trying to correct misaligned text and variables which have been incorretly marked that I'm now going to look again at Hyperstudio (after 5 years) and MEDIATOR (after 2 years).
I cannot afford the time to sort out lots of little problems such as text alignment and variable recognition.
The main problem is that I loved using OPUS.. it made a major change from various dialects of BASIC and gave that little more ' power to the elbow'.
Ed... seriously demoralised...

Hi Ed !

Could you please state your text problem more accurately ? I was also a user of Mediator for some time and when I changed to Opus I found out that it is a much more reliable piece of software with more features than Mediator.

The text editor is much more powerful than in Mediator . It lets you use a lot of things that Mediator doesn't like

-using bullets
-spacing before and after paragraphs
-left and right indents and even hanging indents
-line spacing (this is one of the reasons I left mediator - because you only have single line spacing)
-vertical alignment of text
-tab stops at any position

So where's the problem
:?:

I believe Ed is still referring to the issue with Flash published projects ending up with the text misaligned.

Hi,

Thank you for your enquiry.

As previously stated, we acknowledge this bug, appreciate its severity and are trying to determine a satisfactory solution as quickly as possible. I am sorry that this process takes time, but we must rigorously test any changes to text handling on as many applications and systems as possible to ensure that there are no adverse effects for other publication elements.

As a workaround, you should find that rendering text objects prior to publishing (by right-clicking on the object and selecting Render) and turning off JPEG compression during publishing will prevent text being offset, but this will not work for buttons or objects which have different mouse over states.

Once again, I am sorry for the delay, but we hope to provide you with a more comprehensive long-term solution as soon as possible.

Kind regards,

Hi Klaus - thanks for your reply. I LOVE Opus and have used it with RELISH for a few years now. I updated to OPUS 4 and hit problems. I teach students who are not the most academic and I create learning packages.
I'm also trying to get some of these published. I've been creating e learning materials since the old BBC computers - lovely jubbly!
And by the way I now have an emulator which converted many of my BBC education games to work on modern 'puters !!!
Great... my 17 -20 year old students really go at it ... but I side track ( have a look at www.edukate.net) ....

I'm now creating again in OPUS PRO version 8 and am having less problems with text alignment when FLEXed to swf ..... I can cope with that!

What I can't cope with is the random errors my students get when they enter data in a text box ( CORRECT DATA TOO) and it is marked wrong. The same program in exe or web or editing mode shows no problems.

This has been causing annoyance for a few months now and so far I've had no solution to the bug. Imagine my rage when after installing the latest version of OPUS the blooming text went haywire!!!!!

Apart from those niggles .... I've promoted OPUS in both N and S Ireland for three years - particularly among the F.E. community and my students are now aware of the odd 'error' in the flash format quizzes and games..... they are so patient !!!!

Thanks again .... Eddie ... I'm sticking to OPUS PRO 8 until I can get some assurance that the text alignment has been sorted ... a small bug no doubt but I'm probably missing out on a lot of useful features!

Has anybody used HYPERSTUDIO ??? I used that before I took up OPUS and the choice was rather imposed on me at the time.
