Post subject: Timeline start stop ok but how to interupt & restart
PostPosted: January 23rd, 2005, 7:17 pm
hello
made a timeline so text over a video hides on play then appears again when vid has finished (46 secs later)

the timeline is triggered from a PLAY button...

heres the prob i cant solve
There are two buttons: PLAY STOP

the play works and when finished can play again if pressed
the stop works and is set to reset and show text

BUT BUT BUT BUT...... I want the PLAY to restart evry time someone wants to click it
but i cant seem to get this to happen. have tried a variety of stop followed by start, both in thwe timeline and before it on the button actions

*any reason I cant resolve it? (be polite!)
*or a method of consecutives that would ressolve it?

cheers
stephen
(I have opus proXP)

Hello Guest stephen,

I don't think stop/start is going to work on the Timeline as your initial command is for the Text object to only Show when the Video (46 secs) has completed. Hence each time you stop/play the Timline, it is instructing the Text object to hide, when it's already hidden.

You don't say whether the Timeline is playing the video or not, but if you use the "Synchronise to End" trigger, you won't have to worry with lengths of video for synchronisation in Timelines. (We probably need a little more info from you here on how you set up the video)

Anyway, without using a Timeline, try this approach using Sync-to-End of Video... (see screenshot of the PLAY and STOP buttons)

Make sure you tick-box the 'Send to "Synchronise to End" triggers' on the STOP button only.

PS: If you want the Video to restart everytime someone clicks on PLAY, then add a "Stop/Reset Video" action between the "Hide Text 1" and "Play Video" action. (and do not tick "Synchronise to End" on this action)

Looks perfect solution.... I would include the ps bit as well and would be total answer... BUT!

seem to have a perculiarity:
when the 'synchronise to end' trigger is set in place I have an option to select and apply my video clip.... BUT it will select ok, but the 'apply' button does not seem to register having done anything (no record of the video is written along side 'synchronise to end'

Also there is no tick box (as in your diag) to 'send to synchronise to end'. On my window it is just white box with 'video1' and nothing else.

The end result is the text hides then shows then the video starts... it does not wait to the end before showing.

Is there a reason for this difference/perculiarity in our software display/choices??

cheers for thoughts
stephen

This check box is available on all 2.81 and 04 versions of Illuminatus Opus, Illuminatus Opus Pro, Opus Presenter and Opus Pro XE, so I can only assume that your software is not up-to-date.

Launch Opus, click Help > About Illuminatus Opus and select the System Information tab. Now please make a note of the Version number and Level information displayed.

If the Version information reads 2001a, 2001b or 2001c and the Level reads 'Standard':

- Click on the following link to download Service Pack 3 for Illuminatus Opus:

http://212.100.247.34/updates/opus_std_sr3.EXE

- When you are asked to Open or Save the file, select Save and choose the Desktop as the target location
- Once the file has fully downloaded, please minimise all open windows to display the Desktop and double-click on the file named opus_std_sr3.EXE
- Follow the on-screen instructions to install the update

If the Version information reads 2001a, 2001b or 2001c and the Level reads 'Professional':

- Click on the following link to download Service Pack 3 for Illuminatus Opus Pro:

http://212.100.247.34/updates/opus_pro_sr3.EXE

- When you are asked to Open or Save the file, select Save and choose the Desktop as the target location
- Once the file has fully downloaded, please minimise all open windows to display the Desktop and double-click on the file named opus_pro_sr3.EXE
- Follow the on-screen instructions to install the update

If the Version information reads 2002a, 2002b or 2002d (or you have just installed Service Release 3 in the previous step):

- Click on the following link to download Service Pack 6 for Illuminatus Opus and Illuminatus Opus Pro:

http://212.100.247.34/updates/opus_2002_sr6.exe

- When you are asked to Open or Save the file, select Save and choose the Desktop as the target location
- Once the file has fully downloaded, please minimise all open windows to display the Desktop and double-click on the file named opus_2002_sr6.exe
- Follow the on-screen instructions to install the update

If the Version information reads 2.6 (or you have just installed Service Release 6 in the previous step):

- Click on the following link to download the 2.81 update for Illuminatus Opus and Illuminatus Opus Pro:

http://212.100.247.34/updates/Opus_SR281.exe

- When you are asked to Open or Save the file, select Save and choose the Desktop as the target location
- Once the file has fully downloaded, please minimise all open windows to display the Desktop and double-click on the file named Opus_SR281.exe
- Follow the on-screen instructions to install the update

Now launch Opus and try applying a Stop Video and Reset action. The 'Send Synchronise to End trigger' option should now be available.

I hope this helps. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any further queries.

Kind regards,

Robin:
I didn't see you address his issue about the null string "<>" instead of <video 1>. I've had this issue...seems some things go in, others don't from the synchronization availables. I've assumed perhaps an operator error, but can't see it.

Thanks for thought Robin.
My Version is v2.81
My Level is Professional XE
can't find any update that seems to be missing (besides my ever-increasing knowledge updates as a user!)

Dave.... 'null strings' sound a bit hip n groovey... anything behind the scenes, or in prog lingo is away from my horizon of interest (I'll go there if needed)... I just love the logic of grabbing 'blocks' that have the code sorted behind the scene.. then plonking the blocks to make stuff happen (and it does for the majority of the time!)

There does seem to be something amiss as the 'video1' in my set up cannot be pulled across/applied.

have been trying a mix of 'consecutive actions' including a simple timeline which seems to be heading in the rough direction, so will plod on along those lines, unless anyone has an incling as to why my set up appears to be/act differently??

Cheers Stephen

Hi Stephen (and Dave),

I think I can safely say that most people assume when reading posts, that the writer is using 04.x of Opus unless otherwise stated. It would have helped I think if you stated you were using 2.81 in your first post.

In 2.81 when you use the "Synchronise to End" trigger associated with a Video object, it does not reflect this in the actions tree. Initially you must set up a "Synchronise to End" by ticking the checkbox on a STOP Video action, then add a "Synchronise to End" trigger.

When you click on the "Synchronise to End" in the actions tree, you will see your video object in the selectable objects window to the right. You must click on it, eventhough in 2.81 it will not display the:
"Synchronise to End" <Video 1> -- in the actions tree. (This has been implemented in Opus 04, as per my previous screenshot)

Please find attached a 2.81 IMP file which demonstrates the actions in the previous Opus Pro 04 screenshot.

You will note in the pub there is doubling up of the "Synchronise to End" trigger. i.e. One has been added to the PLAY button and another to the STOP button. Ideally, you only need it on one, as the "Synchronise to End" trigger is activated by the stopping/pausing of a video, and not by a typical left click.

Have an experiment with the 2.81 IMP to suit your requirements. :)

BTW: You should do yourself a favour and checkout Opus Pro 04. I'm sure DW will point you in the right direction for the downloadable link. 8)

Perfection!!

STOP:
stop n reset video1 (ticked the send trigger here)
sinc to end (clik video1 although wont show in my 2.81 steam driven vers)
show text 1

PLAY:
stop n reset video1 (unticked the send trigger here)
hide text 1
play video1

It works a treat........... how simple! (may be talking about the method or even me  )

Always easy when know how, so thanks for attention to prob. Prob solved thanks to know how.

Kind Regards
Stephen
