I read an article on the forums recently about using sound in timelines and displaying a waveform..that also gave a visually representation of the length of the clip.

It would be nice if one could see a similair thing for video.

I'm not asking to change the functions/asctions or anything..just a visual representation of the time it takes...

Hi,

Thank you for your enquiry.

When you add a Play Sound action to a timeline, you are forced to select the file which should be played and it is not possible to use a variable for the audio name. It is therefore simple for Opus to determine the length of the chosen audio file and give you a visual representation of the waveform and track length.

When you add a Play Video action to a timeline, you are prompted to select the video object which should be played, not the specific file. This video object may be using a variable as the path to the video file, so it is difficult for Opus to be sure which video file is going to be played when the publication is previewed, let alone provide you with the track length.

I have added this to our list of requested features and we will investigate the possibility of adding this in a future release. However, this would probably require a major reworking of the way Opus deals with variables within the editor and is certainly not a trivial addition.

Kind regards,
